Tankenstein (oh the shame of it all)
http://speedsociety.com/incredible-r...d-start-drive/
https://www.youtube.com/results?sear...ry=Tankenstein This is what people think of carriers; meat for the grinder. |
You can tell it's not a flathead in it but he should have tuned her up a bit before making the video.
|
You know what, I love it. Pretty funky. It's like a mini soviet tracked tractor.
|
I was thinking about a Mad Max inspired carrier project - borrowing from the Sand People crawler a la Star Wars, amphibious, and mounting a huge crossbow on the engine cover...
Even more so, now f |
You couldn't go wrong. Somewhere there is a photo of a captured Carrier as described, and a platoon of internet experts who'll swear on a stack of "Military History Illustrated" magazines it was real.
|
I have to admit, it is an interesting look. With some work and a coat of paint, that would be an impressive display at the local car show. I'm not at all endorsing the idea of taking a carrier and doing this with it, but in this case, it has been done, so...
|
What it comes down to is this. It was really badly cut up when I got her, so it was ether go with what I had or cut it up and sell the parts off of it as most of you here would have. To restore this one would cost way to much as many of you know already. It would be cheaper just to buy a restored carrier. I have a lead on another carrier that is more restorable. When I can afford it I will go after and buy it to restore. I love carries, anything with tracks really.

Shawn post some pics up please and tell us a bit about it.

I just did some video with the daily planet on discovery channel. should be on in a few weeks. Tracks got very lose and will now need to remove a few links from each side. I will try to add picks but not sure if it will work. I have a lot of work to do to the tracks before I move it again.
|
I cant seem to upload the better pics but have lots on my facebook page if you want a look. Its Shawn CFarm.
|
A few of the photos linked to and in this thread have caused me to throw up in my mouth a little bit.

Tankenstein
Sorry everyone, I mean no disrespect. I did a little of every thing for discovery channel. I worked on the ram bar for the tank on the front. Kind of going for a hedge row buster look from ww2 but upside down. I got the monster trike running a bit but not good enuff to drive. Then I did some hot laps in the field and rammed into a car. Not sure if I want to do that again. lol. It was fun but don't want to bust her all up like that.
I know some people don't like what I did to this carrier but the damage was already done. You have to look at the bigger pic. I make money online from the videos I make so some day hope to make enuff too buy a restored carrier or a better one to restore. Maybe Tankenstein then will be used for parts but I don't think so. I might as well have fun for now with it and get younger people intrested in tracked vehicles. |
tankenstein
I love it.
It's yours, do what you want. If you didn't have it it would still be rusting away or heading to china on a ship as scrap. :thup2: |
I have to agree with Ryan. It's yours to do as you see fit. It's not like you cut the upper armour off to make it.
I have 3 spare hulls out back in varying degrees of completeness. But there are about a dozen other projects lined up before anything ever gets done with any of them. Your vehicle (and the others shown) make me smile a little. |
I second that.
As Rob says they are yours to do as you see fit. As a guy doing his own thing with an old chopped up T16 I can appreciate any "restoration" or use is better than letting it rust away or go for scrap.
|
I still find it a great way to have fun with the remains of a carrier, find a better one and keep Tankenstein for the fun

Hi Andrew. A friend of mine got a hold of them for me. I think you can also do that from there web site not sure. Anyway it was a lot of fun now I need to do more work. Working on the trike this week. It keeps jumping the timing belt so must have some thing stuck in the bottom crank shaft gear.
|
Jumping off or shearing? Jumping off could be as simple as adding a washer type plate at the crank to keep it on, kinda like on sb chevs, i think it was a crank oil sling that sat on the crank shaft? that might work? Also, is it a belt? if it had stretched uneven then it will probably be warped and need replaced as it will always run untrue.

Jumping out as in the timing marks do not line up again after it starts. Found one of cogs on the bottom crank gear full of dirt or some thing. Just need to clean it all up and put the new belt on it. It cost me $11.65 taxes in for the belt hahahha. gota love the 1.6l chevette engine.
