Which tank is this from?
1 Attachment(s)
Can anyone ID the tank that would have used a 6-pdr and a Besa? I assume that this plate is from the Mantlet?

Might be Crusader III. Centaur and Cromwell have a mounting No2, Valentine uses a different one again.
It fits onto the cradle itself, not the mantlet. |
Clive,
Its from the weapon mounting that bolts to the inside face of the mantlet. Mike |

Do you know which model tank this would be? I don't know the Brit stuff but I suspect that there were not many that mounted a 6-pdr and BESA in the same cradle. C |
Valentine Mk X
Churchill Mk III are both possibles. I don't have the manuals for these two to check the Mounting nomenclature, but both had a BESA coax to a 6-pdr main armament. Mike |
Valentine Mk X uses a No 4 mounting, I don't have anything on Churchill III to check.

Then possibly Churchill?
Clive,
I have a Churchill Mk V & VI service instruction book, which states, in the gun mounting section: 'The mounting, 6pdr/75mm and BESA MG, No.1 and No.2 Mk.1, either of which can be fitted to the Churchill VI ....' So evidently there was a No.1 Mk.1 and a No.2 Mk.1 mounting. Maybe that provides a clue? I have manuals for the Churchill V, VI and VII, but not the Mk.III. Mike |
