Mirror Models CMP C60L in 1/35th
 

Hi there

I won this kit at the AMPS Great White North show a few weeks ago.

It depicts C60L GS with the composite wood/steel body.

It's your typical short-run injection-molded it with really thick parts runners but it does include a small fret of photo etched parts. The plastic parts look well detailed and should go together without too much trouble

It also includes a bizarre vacuformed canvas top which is not very useful and a set of vinyl Dunlop 10:50-16 tires, which are too small and not very well detailed. I sent off for a set of Resin 10:50-20 tires which are very nice and an additional PE set.

A couple of questions:

When did Chev change over from the 'civilian pattern' rectangular dash instrument panel to the US-style dials?

There is an odd half-cylinder shape moulded to the right side of the engine cover which have not seen in prototype pictures. Any ideas what it is? I figure Mirror Models used an existing C60 as a pattern vehicle and some of the unusual features reflect 65 years of civilian use.

The change to standardized round gauges (both chev and ford) occured in 44 I believe, although Bart Vanderveen listed it as being in 43. I personally have not seen a 43 with them.

How about a picture of the box cover.

The cylindrical can on the side of the nose is an expansion tank for the radiator.

Technically they never completely changed from civvy instruments to military ones. Some late 1944 Australian C60 contracts had a mix of civvy rectangular and round military.... they may have been liquidating surplus parts. Makes you wonder which museum full size model they used as basic information.

The vinyl wheel do suck but the 10:50x16 size on C60 is not unheard of ...... in fact some C60 had the C15 small axles and 16 inch rim/tyres.

Hi there

The attached photo shows the No.13 Cabs of several kits. (L-R) Mirror Models (w/scratchbuilt rad shroud),IBG and the ancient Max/Airfix/Italeri.

Makes you wonder what the manufacturers were using as references.

I've spent days correcting the Mirror Models cab roof which has a profile that is too thin and flat.

Ah, but we are modellers, aren't we?

So of the three kits in your line up; Mirror Models IBG and Airfix / Max which one has the most accruate cab?

And is there any ability to mix and match?
