Gents, Does anyone know where I can get an original badge, also what position on the battledress blouse would it be worn?.

thanks kevin.

Neil Ashley 16-05-14 13:19

You can get reproduction ones from various companies like this but they are unoffical badges. There was never an approved badge for the drivers of Bren Carriers.

Rick, does BC not stand for 'Best Cromwell' or 'Bloody Cromwell' or both?. I will get you a badge to :D

lssah2025 17-05-14 15:10

Well it could mean buy Cromwell or when both are together BiCromwell, or it could be Be Cromwell/Centaur, who knows Kevin...

Lynn Eades 17-05-14 15:26

And here's me thinking it is the Hells Angels motor cycle gang chapter from British Columbia. :D

Badge

Gents, Got an original today, lucky find, the position worn on the battledress remains a mystery.

Kevin.

Ron Pier 27-05-14 09:40

A trade badge is worn on right upper sleeve by the rank and file only.
A skill at arms badge like the cross flags of a signaller or the winged wheel of a Motorcyclist or dispatch rider are worn on the left forearm. Likewise a Machine gunner or Bren Carrier driver is not a trade but a skill at arms. Ron

kevin powles 27-05-14 09:54

Thanks Ron, I was hoping I could wear it below the upper arm insignia were a set if stripes would be worn, I have a 'moth' nip I wanted to cover, will post up some pictures. If not acceptable in this position Ron I will have to follow your advise.

RichardT10829 27-05-14 11:58

Anyone know where I can buy british badges ? I want shoulder titles and the three red bars which I believe denote junior battalion, I looked at my grandad's kit online and he had them on his shoulders just whilst we are discussing badges

I want my BD kit to be RSF 5th Div.

Infact my KD kit will need to be RSF too !

Rich, have you picture if what you are looking for, I have been trawling the net recently and have come across a few good sights selling original titles.

My Fathers Dad was royal Artillery (centre picture in waist coat small oil can in hand). Has anyone a close up of what that cap badge would look like?.

Kev.

A badge in this position would designate an instructor and as no official badge exists for a Bren Gun Carrier Driver it would be totally wrong. You could make yourself a staff Sergeant and wear a crown there or perhaps crossed rifles for skill at arms instructor. There are other options.

Yours Grandfather appears to be serving in one of the Yeomanry Regiments converted to RA between the wars but retaining their own cap badge.

I assume it will be one of these featured on this site.

Probably this one?

Thanks Neil, I don't want to wear any rank I'm not entitled too, I will have to darn the hole and wear the bren gun carrier badge were Ron suggests, I will play it as its there until my drill sergeant spots it whilst on parade!!!, and tears me off a strip.

RichardT10829 27-05-14 13:56

Here you go Kev.

Inneskillen Ireland re arming and training after the Dunkirk fiasco.

Posing with Ron.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v4...pstcqrfjwm.jpg
Note the 5th div flash and the three red bars... No Bc badge and all three were carrier drivers....

Same with Ron but in KD kit
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v4...ps92rnpnem.jpg

And finally KD tunic and trousers (i have this kit) this shot was either Sicily or Italy although could be Bizzerta I believe

The most accurate version of this kit on repro form can be obtained from www.whatpriceglory.com. All others I have seen are hopelessly wrong !

kevin powles 27-05-14 16:34

Pics.

Nice pictures rich, Will you be dressed for W&P?. I found a good site called "world war wonders" what they are selling is reasonable priced. You can pick up original insignia on ebay but tread carefully.

Kev.

RichardT10829 27-05-14 17:05

Got full BD denims top and bottoms for 50 quid from the site I mentioned... Very very reasonable on price !!!

I will be in full KD kit (as per last pic in my last post) for W&P for the carrier days, otherwise I will be in usual code of dress as per the last pic on my last post..

Arnhem I will be in brown Denim BD with a great coat if I can find it :-)
