Selling M38A1 parts into the US
I've got a chance to sell the whole pile of extra mechanical parts to a fellow in the US. No terms negotiated yet, except my opening price. He lives 14hrs away, so my mind is thinking about meeting him halfway But I wonder if the whole plan could shudder to a halt at US Customs when I roll up with whatever the guy wants to buy. What paperwork or preplanning should I do in order to make this go effortlessly?

There should be no issue with your parts as far as I know.
I would make a comprehensive list of what you are taking down, you might want to stop into Canada Customs to have it verified just in case you come back home with them, at least that way you can prove that you took them down and are simply returning with the same stuff. I would also use words like "antique jeep parts" instead of military or combat vehicle etc.Importation should not be an issue into th USA as they are both vintage as well as made in the USA. |
The magic words.....
....when I was taking articles I sold on Ebay across the border to for mailing within the USA ( it was cheaper) the magic words that the US custom officer wanted to here was....... originally made in the US and is returning to US...... no fees no paper work.... and stress that your are sending item to a friend and not selling as a business venture.
Will take a lot of stamps if you mail at UPS.... Bob C |
And if you are sending/giving them to a friend, don't have copies of your emails with him about any purchase in the glove-box, on your person, or on your cellphone. They dislike being lied to.
Derk and I brought some ferret tires to the US a few years back. We were taking them to the convention in Duluth. The border guy clarified that it was a private sale, and sent us on our way. They do not seem as eager to collect their taxes as our border guys are. |
Parts
I have travelled some distances to get parts. I am just wondering is there nobody here who wanted the parts without having to make a 14 hr drive.
