I went to a clearing sale on Saturday where this Chev blitz was, my intent was to see how much it sold for, but was called away before it sold.

I am curious as to what the horizontal channel bracket is above the rear window and its purpose. I don't recall having seen this bracket before on a truck. It is painted green and looks factory/original.

Any other details on the truck would be interesting to know.
The data plate on the dash was missing.

Details of the truck are:
134 or 158"wheel base (hard to tell where it was parked)
ARN 73014
Chassis # 2844200499M
originally fitted with a bren gun gallows arm on left side of cabin
late war fire ex bracket on drivers side of cabin
rectangular dash
no steering wheel
radiator overflow tank mounting holes on left side of cabin, but never fitted (factory bolts installed & painted green)
cabin fitted with a canvas rear window

Hi Darrin,
The channel bracket was once a bit longer and extended out to hold clearance lights. Not sure when this was done but I've seen this set-up on a lot of post war trucks.

Looks to be a C60S, but as you say a bit hard to tell from that angle.

Nice straight cab, hope the scrappies didn't get it.

The overflow tank may have been mounted under the passenger footwell which is where the later production trucks had them.

I agree with wayne, clearance lights were often fitted post-war.

Addendum: Chassis number indicates a C60S, 8442.

There were no holes under the passenger floor for an overflow tank.
I am hoping someone might be able to shed light on it from the ARN & the AWM records.

yes, the cabin sheet metal was very good. The chassis cross members had all been cut out and a C channel installed behind the rear diff. No pintle, no fuel tanks, no carby, no oil flier cap so engine was U/S.
The radiator was very good looking and was fitted with a shroud.

This was quite a good truck when it was originally parked on the banks by the Murray River many years ago. Unfortunatley the amount of traffic on the river and a well used camp nearby slowly saw every bit of glass smashed, and anything easily removable, removed. I tried to buy it 20 years ago (when it did indeed have the gallows mount), this was before there was movement on the Hume Dam wall, which led to a month of high water (while the dam level was dropped) which would have seen this truck semi submerged (at least) for the duration. Always felt it had a very good cab though.
