CMP Snow plow
5 Attachment(s)
While on a road trip yesterday down to the tropical part of Ontario our eyes were attracted to this as we breezed by. A few quick right turns and we were back at it and quickly ascertained that its origins were military for sure. My thought is something CMP?
Here for your delight and delectation are the pictures. Couldn't resist snapping his business name. R |

And here are the remaining pictures including by the same maker a ground driven spreader, the axle is turned through 90 degrees and a spinner plate attached to the UJ yoke and by gravity the sand salt drops onto it.

Cmp
CMP for sure, Chevrolet 3-ton basis, even has a winch.
|
We had a look at the winch, it is not connected to the shaft

curious as to how that makes it through safety check and what its registered as...
BUT Im still glad that oddball stuff is still allowed at all.. too many do-gooders, busybodies, safety zealots, and politically correct in this bubble wrapped helmeted, uber protected, world. (and now the proposed cyberbullying law contains within it provisions for govt spying almost exactly like whats happening with NSA and metadata mining in the US.) |
Robin:
Probably a long shot, but with the winch in it, any chance it might have been a FAT? David |
David you asking the wrong guy as to whether it was a FAT, its outside my area of knowledge, I just recognised it as weird and when we looked further figured out it is a CMP
Marc, it bears an SMV sign ie slow moving vehicle and the owner is using that red herring as the way out and likely as it is only used for a parking lot and doesn't go on the road is the other that I'm thinking except and the begining at end of the plowing season. the SMV sign is by fluke exactly in line with the camera in both front and read shots, if you look ultra closely in the rear 3/4 shot it is in line with the rear wheels of the Dodge truck behind it. Marc do you need to start a thread of your own so you can rant and rave and spin up in the corner? Its in St Catherines by the way, forgot to mention that, found it near to the Niagra street area. Quite common.....
..... as opposed to PQ which requires license plates even on farm tractors and parking plate if you have more than 3 unlicensed vehicles in your backyard Ontario is more poetic.
There are numerous military 6x6 prime movers converted to corn harvesters.... their specialty is harvesting wet fields or frozen cornfields.... one of which I helped instal the hydraulic drive for the corn head. All they need and use are brake lights/headlight/field lights and SMV triangle front and back....... not much different than a 8 wheel case tractor pulling a train of 3 or 4 full freshly harvested corn....... and the fill the road from shoulder to 2 or 3 inches over the white line.... not recommended for downtown Ottawa but tolerable in rural areas. Vive Hammond libre!!!!!! |
