What a depressing sight-some of those look as good as new. I bet the carrier owner will be crying at the waste. I wonder if there's a modern equivalent anywhere.

Is that a Morris in the middle of the Bedfords? link |

I wonder what the source of the scrapped CMP images Bart used in Wheels and Tracks - can't remember which issue, but it was one of the most fascinating issues for me. The closest I've come to this sort of thing is the scrapping of all the weathered NOS CMP cabs I filmed for Year of the Blitz http://www.oldcmp.net/Images/YOTBvideo/destruction.jpg |

Have a bit of compassion for the British trucks, please. There are a number of Austin K5 "screamers" on the pile and the ambulance on full side view looks like it has a Bedford MW bonnet and sides on it, very odd. It is definitely not one of the rare Bedford ML ambulances from the position of the front wing to the cab. In the earlier photos posted the trucks stacked with the carriers are either Fordson WOT6 or WOT8 . The "Morris" is in fact a Humber 4x4, could be either an ambulance, heavy utility or personnel and wireless. Richard |
LLoyd carrier...
...on top of the pile in .03jpg....sigh YOu would think all those ambulances would have made good delivery trucks etc. And the carriers would have been great little tractors to help boost post war agriculture production....

Would these be ex-BAOR vehicles? By 1958 surely the "front line" troops were to be issued with modern kit, weren't they? Quote:
