Deep Wading Carrier

Hello everyone,

I came across this photo in the book “Bloody Buron” by Capt J. Allan Snowie. It is PA 136854 (PAC32981), and shows a Bren Gun Carrier of the Highland Light Infantry regiment of Canada, being prepared for the D-Day landings on 19 May 44.

WD No. on this?

Great picture. Can anyone make out the WD No. on this photo for me? Want to see which Mark of carrier this is. On the face of it it looks like a MkI fitted with a towing attachment, but could be a MkI Mortar. WD Nos are close for these types.

Thanks
Nigel

Silly me!

Have just noticed its cover with the WD No. stencilled on it!! Didn't know they did this.

CT163804. I can now ID this as a 3" Mortar Carrier MkI.

Thanks for all your help :)

Carrier Tac Signs

Here is a photo of another HLI carrier from the same book.

How dose the system of Carrier Tac signs works in an Infantry Bn? The first photo had the tac sign "W5" or “W6” this one appears to be “Z1”. I have seen others starting with the letter “T”. It seems that they all are contained in a diamond figure. Are these colour coded?

Thank you for your help.

Note the chore horse on the front right fender of this carrier. I guess that this one belong to the battalion HQ.
