Gmc short wheel base tipper?
2 Attachment(s)
Hello
At the annual meeting of old cars and trucks (civilian and military) near PARIS (LA LOCOMOTION EN FETE) there was a GMC CCKW352A2 (short wheel base with Split axles and winch) and a tipper as body. The truck was registered in HOLLAND and I would like to know if it was an original truck or a modified truck during its civilian life. |
Yes Orginal

Hi Serge
The trucks pictured could well be restored original, in looking at a CCKW book it seems that the French liked the short wheel base units as there are lots of pictures of French Army units using various versions CCKW trucks with the short wheelbase. Picture from the book The GMC 6x6 and DUKW A Universal Truck. Cheers Phil |
Gone forever
GMC Short Wheelbase tippers were also built for the US Navy Sea Bees. One was recently cut up in a scrap yard in Idaho along with another SWB and 2 LWB CCKWs.
A local G503 forum contributor put out an alert and tried to salvage what he could. His posts appear in the 'OTHER, MV's, US' section under the 'Trucks 2-1/2 ton +' heading on the G503 Forum. David |

Hello
I thank you for the information displayed by PHIL. I remember that 20 years ago in the great commemoration in NORMANDY (1994) I took a pic of an other GMC short wheel base with winch and a tipper body. These one had enclosed cab and I have founded again the pic. Contrary to the documentation it own a winch. Maybe these winch were added during civilian use or by local army. Regards Serge |
