Beginning a new carrier restoration
After getting my Humber Mk4 Armoured car finished ( well, 99.9% finished.. they never really are) I have purchased a Mk1 project.
It has been about 10 years since my last carrier project so a lot has happened in the carrier world since then. Does anyone know if All Era Militaria is still selling repro bins and boxes? Is anyone else selling such things? Anyone making up Mk1 gas tanks? Looking for a radiator cap. The one on mine was nicked. All the best, Jim |
Hi Jim
Try John Bizal @ Midwest Military. He did a great job on his MK1 and had to reproduce many of the sheet metal bins, boxes and components. He has quite an extensive offering of these type accessories on his website. Many carrier parts are becoming very difficult to source and supplies are drying up since your last restoration. The interest in the UC world has expanded greatly during the last few years... -Chris |
Thanks Chris!
Good to hear from you again old son! Hope all is well with you.
Thanks for the lead! Talk more later... Jim |

Hi Kevin!
My family is going to be coming to the states for a vist this year, so It looks like the 0p70 event to Arnhem will be my next visit. If that changes, I iwll then try to schedule it for W&P timeframe.
All the best! Jim |

Is Ben on MLU with a different name than "Ben Hawkins"? The PM system can't find that name....

Hi Jim, Just try 'Ben', he has a recent thread on a 'scout carrier'.
have you some pics of your new carrier project?. Only found this ugly looking carrier mob on your facebook page!. kev. |
Hi Jim
I'm Ben!! I can help with tanks if you like. What's Rick just smelt in that picture? |
Hi Ben! Just sent you a PM!
I think int he pic they are all going "Ewwww... mud!" I got to W&P on Thursday afternoon from flying into Heathrow. My wife dropped me off there and went to stay with her brother in Lewis while I hung out with the guys and wandered through the mud and vendor's pitches. Jim |

Rick
"that's my cum face !!" That would explain the look on Richie's face then!! Singe was obviously too much of a gentlemen to watch. It was good fun in the arena if not a little muddy. Ben |
HAPPY DAYS !!!
the downside is the mud is a complete arse to get off once it dries but i wouldn't have it any other way. |
Hi Jim
How about some photos for us guys in the boonies that can't get high speed and therefore Facebook is an all night adventure getting on. Long time no see. Cheers, Barry |

Hi, I keep the carrier spayed all over with 'duck oil' inside and out, stops it rusting aswell as the mud sticking to much.
Someone watched me doing this at W&P and said 'you dont want to do it like that, Dust will stick to the oil' (Check out 'Harry Enfield' 'Mr you dont want to do it like that'). Have we hijacked Jims 'Thread' ??. :) Kev. |
Oh, that's alright.... I don't mind...
Keep it up! :drunk:

Hi Jim,
great project again. When can we expect pictures of the new project. Peter http://www.milmarket.org |
patience...
Hi guys,
The carrier project is still with the seller in Canada until this spring.... I had filed a BATF Form 6 amlmost a year ago but I made the mistake of attaching a cover letter that asked if - with the "Canadian Exemption" to the Weapons of War" import provisions - I really needed to file the Form 6. Several atempts to follow up with emails and calls went unanswered. I now realize that I created an exception to some BATF' admin person's day and the application was diverted. Likely until some future date when they had the time to research the answer. :bang: So I resubmitted the application in it's simplest form. So, April or May or June... when I get it back, I have a broker lined up and several movers to work with to make the final arrangements. When I do get ti home, I will take a full photo inventory. I found that with digital cameras and apps like Picasa, it is realistic to photograph the dickens out of a project. I found out with the Humber Armoured car project that I relied heavily on the same efforts by other owners. We are planning to creat a joint Humber Armoured Car archive. I know the pics from my first carrier restoration and from others, are still in film and prints that need scanning. I imagine there are others in the same state. In the spring, when i really get my hands back int he carrier world, I will be happy to share my pics. After all, With my first carrier I was a neophyte and so many people helped me with letters (yes, back a while! ) photos, visits, and a few beers to get started. CHeers Jim |

Hi Jim,
Welcome back - it's nice to see you here again. Let us know if your upcoming spring border raid brings you anywhere near the Chicken Ranch. It would be great to have a cold one or more with you. Cheers, Brian |
