British unit marking
1 Attachment(s)
hello ,
Maybe somebody with more knowledge on this subject can help me out . There is a faded unit sign on the rear off side of the Morris PU I recently bought . It appears to be three numbers , possibly 538 on a red background 9 inches square . This is a British unit tac sign I believe . Thanks from Mike |
tac sign
Mike,
I cannot find any numbers in the 500 range for British army, in all my books. It may help to know what division it was in, is there a sign on the opposite side? My guess is this truck made its way to Aus. when your troops returned from N.Africa (?). Just my thoughts on it. Richard |
Thanks Richard

Thanks richard ,
The numbers are very faded and difficult to read . Yes, The Pu has come here via the Nth African desert . I will have to research the British divisions thet were in the Nth African theatre and try and match it up See the pic below Mike |
Re: 538
Mike;
I've found a 538, but on Red/Green (R.A.S.C.), under GHQ, L. of C. and Army Troops, 1st Army, 31 Dec 1942. Unit: 64 L.A.A. Regt Platoon, R.A.S.C. Have found no other reference to 538 on Red. Hope this helps :) Cheers |
Arm of Service marking....
