CJ5 or M606A2? The data plates on the dash would seem to indicate military issue. Were the Swiss vehicles provided under MAPP?

No military aid to a neutral country. Somewhere on the 'net are pages that detail the Dutch, Canadian and other M38A1 Jeeps. This one sounds legit as a Swiss purchase.

CJ-5! I have checked the specs of the CJ-5, M38A1 and M606A2. The Swiss ordered them direct from the factory, data plates were Swiss Army spec in German/French. Like Terry said, the M606-series Jeeps were ordered by the US Government and handed out to countries receiving military aid. Note that the number of militarised Jeeps sold post-WW2 to Armed Forces around the globe - and including the US military - is much larger than one thinks.

Thanks for the photos and information Hanno.

We had very limited amounts of the CJ5 in Cdn service, although CJ6 and commandos were to be found (especially in the trades school in Borden) along with some decent size purchases of CJ7 in the 80s. Come to think of it, the YJ series also started showing up in Borden.
