Truck, tipping 2 1/2 cubic yards Aust

Who has one of these vehicles handy and can take some detailed photographs of the hoist for a friend located new Albury who is restoring a Ford.

Mike Cecil 02-09-12 00:27

Keith

Need to be a bit careful: there are four different hoists and control lever set-ups.

Can your friend provide some images of what he has (even the cab lever config would be enough for ident purposes).

Tipper

Therein lies the problem... he has a rusty tipper body (not sure about the hoist) and a different F60S which was not a tipper. He had an ARN from the F60S, 57006 which was also marked "AIF L". I happened to have photographed that page from the AWM 126 series of ledgers and it was listed as a "truck, KTN", and disposed of back to FMC.

So if he has the steel body it won't be the first type, and I think the 4th type was on a Chevrolet chassis.

He's got a more interesting truck, though, a Kitchen! A GS base body decked out with cooking kit.

All steel tipper body was the No.4. I'll check the hoist type and get back to you....

Kitchen

Yes I thought that was what it stood for. Interesting how the F60S (and indeed C60S) were mostly used in specialist roles here.

It would be a challenging task to find a body to suit I'd think.

Mike Cecil 02-09-12 16:43

Keith,

His other 'problem' is the wheels: if he intends to build a tipper, the all-steel bodied No.4 had 8.25x20 all round, duals at rear, so he'd have to find a set of wheels and spacers as well: might be easier to locate/build an all-steel GS body! The wheels were Australian manufacture and quite specific to the vehicle type.

But a Kitchen ..... now that would be unique!

Mike Cecil 02-09-12 22:08

Keith,

The tipper hoists were:
Ford Nos 1 & 2: fitted with Olding or Malcolm Moore hoists.
Ford No.3 (also a steel bodied tipper) fitted with G-Well hoist,
Chev No.4 fitted with Trojan hoist.

Each one had a unique chassis mounting and cab control set-up.

So I suppose he's looking for a G-Well hoist to go with his all-steel tipper body on a Ford chassis.....

but I still like the idea of a Kitchen better!!

Kitchen or tipper

I like the idea of that too... but will pass on the details to him.

Thanks for the research!

my C60S tipper

My Chev C60S 2 1/2 CU YDS Tipper No#4 has a GMH "Commercial Body'' mounted to it, not sure about the hoist within the chassis.
It was made in 4-4-45 Aust M (Melbourne?)
It has 20" split rims on the rear and the offset rims on the front with spacers, the previous owner also produced a few spare 20"rims when I bought it.

Richard Coutts-Smith 03-09-12 11:53

Ahh Darrin,
The truck being fitted with the tipper that belongs to Keiths friend is that Ford you were interested in at Bethanga a few years ago.
Rich.

Mike Cecil 03-09-12 17:01

Hey, Richard, tell him he needs to build it up to what it was ...... a Kitchen. Between you and Keith, you might just convince him of the merits of a true 'restoration' ....

Mike C

Richard Coutts-Smith 03-09-12 23:19

Yes Mike, But....
Can the mobile kitchen carry a load of gravel or firewood. This truck will have some nominal use as a load carrier, and while not 100% original will be very nice indeed.
Rich.

Richard Coutts-Smith 30-08-13 10:54

This truck is now 99.9% finished and should be at the next Corowa, however I got a confused phonecall from the owner last night. He had just finished restoring and fitting the wheel carrier that came with the genuine tipper body, but on adding one of his 10.00-20 tyre/rim, found it would not fit. I am assuming the tippers came out with 900-20 tyres, hence the use of duals??
Am I right?
Rich.

Mike Cecil 30-08-13 16:50

8.25x20, I think (says he without checking....).

Offset front wheels with spacers, dual rear.

Thanks Mike, will pass this information on to the confused owner. He will be relieved to know that senility has not set in....yet.
Rich.

OK, speaking of senility, I just found your previous post up the page where you discuss the tyre size....

Visited this tipper yesterday, dropped of an old window top storage bag for the owner to copy as one of the final touches. The floor will be welded in the back this week, the tyre carrier is ready to be fitted (after being modified for the 10.00 -20 tyres) as are the mudflaps. With a pigtail hinge on the tailgate I expect to see the Jeep in the back when the truck makes it's debut at Corowa this year.
There had been a lot of head scratching to sort out the pto and linkages for the tipper, but success at the end of the day.

Looking good

I may have to feature it on the DVD this year!

Jan Thompson 11-01-14 12:01

I hope the person who owns this is going to send in an Entry Form to KVE. Make sure he knows about this and forward him an entry form or get him to contact me.

Richard Coutts-Smith 11-01-14 12:36

Hi Jan, the owner has been coming to Corowa for a while now, like most of the local guys it will probably be a late entry.
Rich.
