Fuel Gauge
3 Attachment(s)
Hey All
I am looking for a gauge, I think thats what you call it, for a C-15 CMP. I have attached some photo's of it so you can see what I need. I am getting a fuel tank built for me and I need the part with the cork and what not. Thanks Gary |
Hi Gary
That is a sending unit Iwould hook a gauge to the existing and check to make sure it works You can get the floats , (brass) from the local auto parts supplier |
Thanks
Thanks Stew
Hopefully someone out there has a sending unit for sale. Gary |
These are avalible
Hi Gary
I have found these as NOS or reproduction parts in the past. Check out some of the Chevy Antique parts sources. As suggested you may even find it through your local auto parts store just say its for a 1938-51 Chev truck. Quick check of the civilian master parts book that period shows lots of different sender units but interestingly only one gasket which would seem to say the screw pattern is the same. Suspect that the only difference is in the length of the arm. Places like LMC http://www.lmctruck.com/icatalog/ca/full.aspx?Page=83 sell a universal style slightly different from that used in the CMP but I think they fit the same attachment screws. Please let us know if you find a source. Cheers Phil |
The five hole sending units are generally Stewart Warner. There was also 6 hole units used on the Ford. Not applicable to your vehicle, but Mac's sells an adapter to match a 5 hole sending unit to a 6 hole fuel tank.
The stewart Warner sending units are available with a variable depth option making it suitable for many applications. Your biggest concern if you get an aftermarket or replacement Stewart Warner sending unit will be to match the resistance range to your old one. |
Information on Ohm ranges
Hi
To expand on what Rob just mentioned the Ohms ranges of the sender and gauge units. Was just looking at this web site which offered some interesting information on universal sender units http://www.tanksinc.com/index.cfm/pa...rod/prd276.htm Looks like your current unit is missing the arm but does the little gear shaft still turn? If so you maybe able to get an Ohm reading on the range. Does anybody have written down what the CMP gauge Ohms ranges are? Are the round gauges different than the earlier commercial cluster units? Gary which instruments does your C15 have the round military or the earlier rectangular unit? Cheers Phil |
On any old mv that I have ever owned, I have trusted a handy wooden dipstick more than a sending unit and gauge... :p

Hey Phil
I have the older rectangular gauges, I have attached a photo of the instrument cluster in progress. Yes the wheel still turns when I move the cork arm up and down. Thank you everyone for your help. Does anyone have a photo of the arm that was mentioned is missing? I have the original Manual and am fairly certain that it says what the readings should be. Gary |
I'll try and measure one
Hi Scott
I'm sure I will see one of these at our clubs MV Rally this week and will measure the ohms range. If this is a direct interchange then we have a new source of sender units. Cheers Phil |
