Rare opportunity to acquire this World War 2 built armoured vehicle.
Very complete but in need of a little work to get running again. Tracks are good, all boxs stamped and included, some spares and original tools.
Engine needs repair/replacing as block cracked in winter time. Road registered, MOT and Tax exempt.
Driven on the road regularly until recently.
We have owned this vehicle for the last 10 years and had lots of fun with it.
It has been to Arnhem, see pictures.
Vehicle is based in Herfordshire. Viewing for serious buyers only, by appointment.

£35,000.

At 35,000 BP I would expect it to be excellent. Asking a bit much considering a blown engine.....

For another five and a block shed be running

Why are people asking such enormous amounts of money for carriers? They aren't really that rare to demand such prices.

Lynn Eades 17-06-12 07:51

Compared to buying a new vehicle, maybe the "rarity" is a relevant factor.
Where can you buy a runner in N.Z. at the moment?

Ben 17-06-12 08:56

I suspect it's a combination of size, ease of use, and tracks.

What's the next affordable "tank" ? A kettenkrad is rare but they're about 100k

I know of 3 LP's about to come up for sale.

You are side stepping the point. :bang:
My guess is that you don't know of one, in the whole damn country, that is for sale "at the moment". .... and that those three (when they do come up for sale, (which is not at the moment)) are all from the same owner..... Correct? :fry: :D :D

I would suggest that world wide, they are getting a teensy bit on the un common side, and that these prices are indicative of the future. Hurry up with getting your bits gathered.
How much change out of a small fortune do you think you might keep, if you were able to buy one of the three you mentioned.

hehehehe :D

It would be cheaper to buy one of the three than it would be to import one from overseas that's for sure.

I do see your point though Lynn.

AOP finished yet? tehehehe...

I cannot for the life of me understand why carriers command such prices....
Come on over to Canada and you can probably find one for $10-15,000. (6,000-9,000 British Pounds)
If I were prepared to spend 35,000 for a machine that is inoperable, I think I would buy something larger, a little more bang for the buck.
While I know they are not the same as far as history, a guy could have a stable full of FV432s for the same money or perhaps a couple MBTs.
Even staying with the WW2 theme, I am sure a fellow could find a couple really nice Willys MBs. Guess its whatever one decides something is worth.

Further to my last, I feel that I must add that my commentary and opinion of carrier value is just that; an opinion.
To those of you who choose to email me personally attacking my opinion because you feel that I am in some way hampering a sale etc, please be advised that I did not realize that I am all powerful in the world of MV appraisals and that I have any kind of influence.. Simply put, I have been in the game for a number of years, have owned many carriers from parts and pieces to complete units. iMany of the carriers that you guys own and have restored, I have probably had a hand in in some way or form. I have helped out a great many collectors here with bits and pieces. Here in Canada, you would be hard pressed to find anyone wanting to pay huge amounts for a toy. Thats the truth, long and short. Yes there are those who have deep pockets and will pay anything just to have but that does not begin :fry: to establish true values.
The European market is definately different, as is the US market for MVs.

Stew Robertson 19-06-12 14:30

Nice shot Chris
but you know Canadians they never are willing to pay what something is worth
Just rebuild one froms scratch and see what you have invested without your time
Materials alone will put you over the top never mind buying the carrier

I also didn,t realize you had so much influence I better pay a little more attention

Chris
Don't worry, I don't think your carrier appraisals are worth a dime. Find me a carrier that looks anything like the one on Milweb here in Canada for $10K and I would snap it up in a second. Seems like all we see are the derelict lower hulls with boat anchor motors for asking prices around $7K. No comparison.

I'm counting on mine being worth a "bob or two" when the time comes that I can't look after it.. (Does not include Veterans)

Thanks Rob, Stew, Charlie et al! I am glad my opinion isn't worth poop.
I tend to play Devil's advocate from time to time... :p
I think what we need here is a group hug, or maybe some sensitivity training.
I can organize a program.

Stew Robertson 20-06-12 01:55

OK YOU START
I will catch up
Stew
PS just stirring the pot

most will recognise it. fitting that it is painted in 56th Div markings, being that the carrier is in Italy and all.

I know this vehicle, it was ran as a sister vehicle to my MK 2 at show some years ago. I rebuilt the engine about 8years ago but last year the hard winter got to the block. The guys who own it asked me to look at the bad oil leak it had developed over the winter, on inspection what had happened was the block had frost cracked , the water had gone into the sump and raised the oil level so much it had pushed the oil out of the dip stick tube. Resulting in a big oil slick under the vehicle. As for the price I hope it gets that money - as it makes mine worth a few penny's !! ( he says rubbing his hands with glee )
