Very early Centurion down under

Today on the way to the Corowa meet I called in to Tim Viberts - always stocked with treasures I cannot seem to live without - business.

Tim was excited to show me his immaculate Mk3 centurion which has recently had an extensive makeover and a brand new power pack fitted.

Nothing unusual about that for the man who is a near living legend when it comes to rebuilding Centurion Tanks.

The remarkable things about this tank were:

It is in immaculate Mk3 battle or show worthy condition inside and out and Tim tells me it started out as a 1940's (I'm sorry I can't recall the details) Mk2 Centurion !

Could it be the oldest operational Centurion in captivity ?

This beautiful machine is now sporting side plates etc and in deep bronze green looks simply stunning.

Yes it is currently for sale to a genuine collector and Yes I am seriously tempted to go back into heavy armour having seen Tim's latest restoration. (I used to own and drive 169-129 Armageddon)

My point is that anyone in Australia seriously contemplating investing in a Centurion should not miss out on this one.

I apologise for neglecting to take any pics - such was my excitement :)

cheers

Phill

Just a silly question from someone uninformed about these matters.

If the B barrel was fitted to a cent in foreign (or non-Commonwealth country) service, was it still embossed with the Queen Elizabeth II cypher?

we had both B and A guns...
some of the early delivered centurions where rebuild Korean war veterans.
they where delivered in 53 the first ones, but dont if any thing is stamped in the barrel or breach.
