What are the most numerous surviving MK1 or MK2 ?

From what i have seen on the forum there seems to be more Mk1s than MK2s surviving, either underestoration or restored . Does anybody have any thoughts on this ?

There were twice as many mk1s made over mk2s. Even then, the numbers I have found over the years would lean towards a greater ratio than that. Possibly more mk2s went overseas (and didn't come back) towards the end of the war, or were given away as lend-lease.

I concur with Rob; from what I have researched, the MK1 was the predominent model used in Canada for training. As the war progressed, Mk1s were shipped overseas and Mk2s followed. I would lean towards thinking that the Mk2 being issued in overseas combat service would have been the least likely to survive or be returned to Canada.
Most wrecks I have seen here are Mk1s.

hmm and yet i have been able to place my hands on more mk2's than mk1's over the years (not that i had the cash to buy them)

o.K., LETS KICK OFF THE mK1 plus points

1. Better gunner protection, he can sit on the floor.
2. He doesnt have too worry about fuel economy so much as there is no fuel gauge.
3. nice rubber finish on the armour top to rest your elbows.
4. more brass to shine up for parade day.

The list goes on.......need I say more!!!!.

kev.

I have always preferred the mk1 over the mk2, just for the very British stowage. Seems like there is a place for everything, and if there is no place then it doesn't belong. Imagine making a specific holder just for a parts cleaning brush, or for the button coupler on the end of the grease gun. I also like the provision of a graduated stick for the fuel tank.

I always found the mk2 stowage much more bland.

Shaun you say there are more Mk1's in the UK now.... that is only because Kevin has brought them here :) go back two years you could not get any early carrier on our rock for love of money... i only hope Kevin stops saturating the UK with Mk'1s as it will bring the value down...bit like hyper inflation for carriers hahahahaha.

Lynn is right imho the ultimate of carriers starts with the bren.

and not to cause offence i feel it then goes in the following order

Bren
Scout
Loyd
Mk1
Mk2
Windsor
T16

i await flaming gents hehehehehe

this tied in with my tracked dream list

Mk1
Bren
Loyd
Vickers light tank
Stuart (early one)
Sturmgeshutz 3G
CVRT scimitar

Certainly in the UK the mnost common surviving model used to be the Canadian Mk11* but obviously others have been imported in more recent years.
