New cast exhaust elbows
Hello,
Having spoken to a few fellow carrier folk the two cast exhaust elbows that bolt to the floor seem to be an issue when it comes to finding a good useable pair. If I decided to have a run made what would the interest be like? If I assumed that the price would be around £80 a pair (based on experience) could I have a show of hands to see who would want some please. If there is enough interest if get a firm price. Any questions, thoughts most welcome. Thanks, Ben |
Ben, I would be interested in a set, If you study one of those elbows after grit blasting, they are actually a casting with a flange welded on.

You might find the weld is just the result of a welded pattern construction, used to cast from. I have a few in bad shape. none show any evidence of having been fabricated in any way.

The best one I have looks to be one piece but I still cant work out how they post machine the top surface unless it was naturally a better finish. It's a pain there is a left and right hand and not one common fitting, it would make our life as restorers easier.........

Does this help? The casting has a join mark around the centre of the flange.
It appears to have been jig mounted, and rotated against a grind stone on the mating face. There is a very distict casting line around the two bolt holes, adjacent to the elbow outlet. There are casting lines running up the inlet at forw'd and aft. I can look at another, and those casting lines running up the inlet are at 90 degrees to the previously mentioned one. It appears that several different methods were used ( one of which may have been fabricated)(Kevins one) By the way, I would like 2 left side ones, not a pair please. |
