DIY Airfix art

I posted this artwork in progress a couple of weeks ago but I've done a bit more. (It's what you do when you can't sleep. I need to get out more!). It's of my C60X - which is a bit of a work of fiction because it's fitted with a GS body and to my knowledge there weren't any GS bodied C60X trucks in Australia. I took a photo of it, painted it with watercolour and acrylic and created the background in photoshop - which was a lot of fun!
I've always loved the artwork on Airfix boxes and on the covers of British comics like Battle Picture Library and Commando etc. I was given a book as a present recently on the artwork for those comics - believe it or not, most of the cover artwork of Jerry getting thumped and Churchill tanks driving over the fleeing Afrika Korps and Chindits letting fly with a Thompson gun at a wave of kamikazi Japanese - was created by a team of Italian artists in the '60s and '70s. Italians do have a good track record for painters. I thought I'd have a go.
Anyway Keith - I've followed your suggestion and put a bloke with a Bren in the hatch - but I didn't use the gallows mount. Why use that when you've got muscles of steel? I'm still mucking around with it - but I think I'll do the jeep next.

Wow!

Warren,

This looks fantastic! Great respect for a real artist.

Cheers,

Hi Warren,

That is great, any thoughts about taking up art as a profession, you could be good at it :D :D

Thanks Marc and everyone. I've hunted around and found some great comic-book artwork I'd had since I was a kid. I'll post 'em up. In the meantime I've decide to have a crack at painting Richard's Bedford QL next. Stand by.
