m38a1 CDN 2

Hello

I am looking for input with a M38A1 CDN 2 right rear tailight hole.

I have only seen patched M38A1 CDN 2's therefore a rivetted plate was put over the rusted area with a small hole for the wires. (The CDN 2 and 3 had the right tailight mounted on a special bracket away from the body rather than like the CDN1 which had it mounted in the body.)

I am looking for data that would indicate that these were made with a small hole or a large (then added a rvetted plate).

Photos to back up and answer would be nice as well.

Thanks
Eric

Eric,

I think I understand your question to be whether there was a big hole or a small one before the rivetted plate was added. Mine doesn't have the plate, so hopefully this will answer your question. Mine has a small hole, about the size of a quarter or a loonie, with a rubber ring around it to protect the wires. The hole in the center of the rubber ring is about the size of a nickel. I can be more specific if you need. Photo is attached.

Hope this helps.

Mike

Eric, there's the '67 parts Jeep in my backyard that might have what you need ...

question answered

Hello Mike and Terry

Mike you understood my question, thank goodness.

I noticed in the photo, outlines of a patch over where the large hole would be. I went back to the operators manual and took a look at the photo and sure enough the original had a patch spot welded over the larger hole and then a small hole for the wires drilled into this patch.

Therefore my question has been answered.

Thanks
Terry i still owe you a visit.

Eric,

I had to go out and look at it again, because I didn't think there was a patch there, but there certainly could be. What you probably saw was a straight crack in the paint at the top, and a faint line along the left-hand side. I didn't think there was a patch because it's completely flush with the rest of the sheet metal on 3 sides.

So thanks, because I have now learned something new myself. (I've only had my truck for about 6 months and have spent most of my work time at the other end, so far.)

cheers,

Mike

We both learnt something. I have had mine since 1987, but it was patched.

thanks

If memory serves, the Cdn2 had the large patch welded over the original large hole. It also had the bracket inside the back to hold an M-series tail lamp. A Cdn3 did not have either. The body did not have the large hole cut into it, nor the bracket welded onto the inner skin.
