O/T -42C in Yellowknife
Hey Gordon, are you a little cool? As you know, Janet watches your weather all the time and today she is a little concerned. -42 degrees Celsius, wow!!!
She phoned you but only got your voicemail. Keep warm buddy. No CMP restoration work today I hope. Cheers, Barry |

O/T -42C in Yellowknife
ah yes, my young friend...you might be cozy there now, but your trip shall end, and you'll be back here with the rest of us soon enough, jes' chillin'!!
|
Not only will his trip end, but notice that he is sitting inside the hotel right now in order to use the internet.
Darn cold here in Manitoba too...-21 with 20km winds to make it feel like -32. Sure you kind of expect that here in Manitoba in January, but we have not had a decent day since early December. Usually there is at least the odd day when it will reach near 0C. What the heck, I am off to Cuba tomorrow for a week. I did not miss the winter the last couple years, and I kind of wish I was basking in the warmth of Kandahar again this winter. |
IM back tomorrow night, but my sunburn will keep me warm for a few days longer. :P

Now that is one amazing video. I gotta admit, I didn't think the video was going to turn out the way it did.
Hard to believe people could/would rest on that beach. |
Jordan, as Wilf indicated it was -33C in our area last night. The good news is that for your arrival back from Shangri-la the forecast is for -1C but there is a possibility of freezing rain. Have a safe trip back.
As for Rob, Cuba should be a nice break from winter on the prairies. I watch your brutal temperatures and shudder. Where I live we get a sh*t load more snow though. Saturday we got another 40 cm. Maybe it's all blowing here from Manitoba.:ergh: Cheers, Barry |
Yes Barry, you guys in S.ON do get more snow, but it also melts. So does ours, but it waits until April. Maybe even later this year.
Usually, in years past, when I head South, manitoba goes into some kind of record setting warm spell. Not this year...here is the weeks forecast high/lows with no windchill value added: Mon L -29 Tues H -18/L-22 Wed H -10 (heat wave, but winds gusting to 60) Thurs H -24/L-27 Fri H -14 L-33 Sat H-14 L-21 Sun H -13 L-20 This will only continue until the end of Feb, then the unpredictable weather will begin. At least I finally have a heated workshop to tinker with the toys through the winter months. |
coldest ...
Rob might remember the week in Moose Jaw the temp got UP! to -56C. That was an unbelievable Canadian experience. The nose pads on my glasses froze to my nose. People left their vehicles idling all day in the parking lots.

Came back from Cuba yesterday afternoon to a virtual Manitoba heatwave: -14 at the airport. Sure a difference from the daily average of +28C in Holguin.
We are actually having a heatwave for the next two days nearing zero, and then back to below average temps of -20 and worse. I now understand why hijackers always said "take this plane to cuba", and not Winnipeg. |
