My 1942 RCAF Fordson This tractor worked with the Lancasters and Halifax bombers in the UK .It was brought to Canada to Edmonton after the war .I have not been able to find one like it .This tractor can go up to 40 mile an hour .It had this hi gear so as when the bombers were comming in they could get off the runway .The "Wasp" drove it ,they were a large part of the ground crew Hauling bombs and fuel

As the photo was taken at a USN base in Oakland, California, it would be unlikely that the tow tractor is a David Brown, anyhow, there are no similarities to a DB that I can see. On a second look I think it is a Ford-Ferguson 9N aircraft tug, check out this website for a good example of an ex-USN one; http://www.ewarbirds.org/vehicles/19...erguson9n.html |

This little gal isn't really soft skin butt !! It can go over 30 miles an hour hauling bombs and fuel to the Lancasters and Halifaxes with a lovely lady driving her It was brought to Canada after the war and is still in good original condition .I painted it the original color" blue "
I am making up four bombs out of pressure tanks and am looking for a trolley for it .Hope to get a picture of it beside a plane like the ones it worked with .There was very few of these in the war ,sofar I have not found another one Attachment 39357 |
Nice!
I like the Model A Ford muffler and headlights. We had the correct bomb trolleys at work 30 years ago but unfortunately all gone now. Regards Rick. |

1942 RCAF Fordson N
Henry Ford had relatives in Cork Ireland So he built them a factory to make tractors .They were N's .Then during the war they thought Ireland might invade the UK so they moved the factory to Daganham England .where they now make the Ford Diesels .This tractor was a industrial modle but it has the hi speed gears to get off the runway when the planes were coming in .I have not seen another one that was in the airforce ground crew .I am getting a bomb trolley for it and will make some bombs out of pressure tanks for it to pull . I also have a fuel wagon for it .The women were the major ground crew and had to drive this tractor .They had to cranck it to start it . There is very few pictures of the ground crews .
