NZ & SA Armoured Vehicles

Good Morning to all...

Reviewing all the T numbers I have now databased over the past 10 years, I realise that I have huge gaps covering vehs held by the New Zealanders and South Africans. To that end, is there anyone out there who might have had access to the various national archives of these two countries and can advise if the various war diaries hold such details. More importantly, if anyone has available copies of such material that they would be willing to share, I would be more than greatfull...

Thanks to all in anticipation...

I take it that you are after more detail than the block of numbers (T77594 to T78243) that were allocated to contract NZ1083. This was for 650 carriers. (There were some 1300 built here, the balance, not being allocated T numbers.
Most of this has come From Nigel Watsons book.
Jeff Plowman published a book on AFV's of N.Z. His book explains the surrounding events.

NZ & SA T Nos

Lynn -

Yep - I have studied both authors in the greatest of detail.

I am looking to ident all veh T Nos and link them to units over time. Alongside the T No, I am also including all local nos, so any info on NZ carriers, where they went to and which vehicle went would be of the greatest help...my best sources to date have been unit war diaries and reports fm all unit LADs....of course any details of British carriers asigned to NZ units in N Africa and Italy would also be welcome...

Sorry can't help. Would you have any info on my AOP. MkIIIw, built by Ford Dagenham, T84991. I understand from Jeff , that 79 of them came to N.Z, and 40 were later sent to Tonga. I have seen the remains of 4 others.
Have you any info on a scout carrier T3529 (belongs to Phillip H. on this forum) It appears that it would have come to Australia, as a result of being handed over to the Australians in North Africa. I wondered if it might have been sent to Aust. prewar, as a sample

From Library & Archives Canada;
Census numbers allotted to Canadian Forces to 20 Oct 1942
CT28841 to 29140 - Carriers
CT42809 to 43651 - Carriers
CT59184 to 59683 - Carriers
CT39781 to 40980 - Ram tanks

I haven't found a later allotment but I continue to search, although it is more in hope than in anticipation. :teach:
