Playing in the Arena at War & Peace 2010
Hello Guys,
My daughter's boyfriend posted this little clip on YouTube. We are assembling in the Arena for "The Convoy of Steel" drive through the camp. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=X5rXGQJm7UQ I apologise for not wearing my BD but needed that later that evening for the 40's Dance party and dust free :) Cheers, Marc |
Driving in someone elses dust is never much fun, especially as a carrier driver. Your head right in the middle of the airstream.
Video was great. Plus I love that sound/whine these things make. |

Fantastic!!
I know that feeling, sound well.. It takes till next war and peace show to clean the dust off. Marc, it was nice to meet. Its better to play in the remote camping field in the evenings. Barry  |
Awesome.....i can just here the commentary for the crowd.... here we have entering the arena one T34 and a column of dust with some vehicles in it :)

Richard
You don't know what your missing until you've been around that arena. :giveup It's ever dust or mud. Both will take years to get off a carrier, but it's a fantastic experance. We need to all decided to have a carrier year at W& P and all gather there. Barry |
that would be pretty cool, tell you what would be fantastic but a total pipe dream i might add........ carrier display team at the edinburgh tatoo :) a full section of carriers flying about the arena flying huge flags off the engine decks (British, Canadian, Australian, Newzealand, etc etc) doing a display along the lines of the red arrows (much simpler routine of course) hahahaha :D
then finish off with a reinactment of Havildar Parkash Singh's rescue which earned him his VC when his fellow soldiers came under heavy fire and he drove his carrier into a hail of bullets to save them.......then returned for the carriers (on his own) not that i have given this much thought at all :) |

Marc
It was nice meeting you guys and your carrier looked good running round the field. I remember 07 well the mud got so hard around the wheels I could not steer at all with track warp.i'll try and find some photos. Richard. I like the red arrows idea. There's already plans a foot for something special next year at another show. you just keep working on that carrier and let me know when it's up and running. Barry |

Have a film from the camera they mounted on it during the show which I am battling to change from the VHS format. But yes Richard an event with all the range of carriers would be fantastic. Nigel |

Two more films taken at War and Peace
Hello Guys,
Here are two more films that my Daughter took at W&P. Barry is featuring at the end of the first one :yappy: The first one The second one Take note of the Lancaster flying overhead and Barry's Carrier ready to be loaded on the trailer. Cheers, Marc |
Where is the centre of mass of the carrier world?
With the large number of carriers (21) mustered in Corowa for 'Year of the Carrier' and the 10 we had at 'Wings over Wairarapa' a couple of years before it could be south of the equator in the Pacific!
given the number of new restorations featured on MLU, and the presence of a pair of early Brens in NZ, a Scout and a couple of LP1 in Oz, together with several Mk I universals and Lloyds, not to mention LP2 and LP2A through out the Antipodies, we would just need a MkII universal, a Windsor and a T16 brought south to pretty well have the set. "Men of Steel" in November 2011 is a possibility, (after the Rugby World Cup) What do you think Lyn? Rob |
Rob
Are you telling me to get my A into G ? :D
|
Now there's a point...
A Kiwi LP1 was ommitted from my list!
And the Mk1 variants like 3"Mor and AOP are present though MMG and Wasp are not. The 1950's Kiwi LP2 variants include 3"mor, MMG and 6pdr tractor are around, but not the flame thrower...yet. Rob |
corowa 20??
Hey Rob I have it in the back of my mind to take the Scout over to Corowa in the coming years when it's complete - seems only fair and my folks property is quite nearby, also it's been ten or so years since I used to attend Corowa.
I'm guessing the Scout might be of moderate interest to one or two Armour enthusiasts in the East. Cheers Phill |
