spare parts needed urgently
I'm going off to have a new ball joint and socket put in my shoulder soon, the one they put in nine years ago has decintergrated into little bits and worn most of the bone away, so I will need a bone graft as well. I don't think I have any spare parts around for this problem, does anyone have or know of any spare parts for this.
I've decided I'm going to give Kathy and Emma hell to make up for what I can't do for the next few months. Max |
Spares
Hi Max
I think with some careful cleaning and a dab of weld here and there a 6" rzeppa joint should suffice. At least you'd have good articulation although you may develop a slight lean in that direction. Last time they probably put a 4 7/8" one into you so no wonder it wore out. Can we call you the bionic man after this? We already know within your chest beats a sidevalve V8. :thup2: Quote:

How about selective injections of epoxy resin and silicone (for lubrication)? You could bind it all together with suitably-thickened Vegemite...

Max I have a few spare body parts that Jo removed from me a couple of years ago... Not too sure if they are the balls that you seek, however.

Parts
I hope you keep them in the parts shed clearly labelled.

thankyou for everyones advice, thought about this but I guess I have no choice but to take Roberts advice and go for the new parts. I guess Kathy might let you know how it goes in the next few days or I might be home before the weekend.

Good luck Max, if it isn't under warranty I think you will need new parts.
I dropped Dad off today to get a new CV joint 1/2 way down his leg,(Nee replacement) he then gets the other one done in four weeks. |
You must make sure they install a grease nipple also for on going maintenance.

Just a quick note to report the Old Man made it through surgery OK.

Max is now back home, the doctor actually used second hand parts to fix his shoulder, thanks to donar bone, but he has a new ball joint as well. This is better for him instead of using his bone for the graft. We believe surgery may have been about 5 hours, I know Max kept me waiting for 8 hours before they brought hime to his room. If all goes well it should never have to be done again. Max now has to behave himself for at least 6 long weeks, who said being a carer was easy.

The first 24 hours have been very trying at times so it could be a long long 6 weeks, I won't give up just yet though :D

Hi Max
It's been over the magical 6 weeks....... can you hoist a beer up to the ol' blow hole yet..... Getting old sucks .....but the alternative is no way to see the dandelions. So how about an update.... Bob C. |

Max,
getting older does suck. Things seem to be packing up, in many areas, knees, hips. I had to laugh at Malcolm's comment. I havent had any operations, but I can relate to his situation. Did the donor bone come from one of your sheep?
You'll have to use the keyboard, with your other hand.(If you used a sheep bone, that arm will never learn anything) My wife says "kids get sick, men get ill, and women get on with it" So take a teaspoon of cement, and harden up! (sorry Max, I had to use that) Our thoughts are with you (and Kathy) Take care. |
Well someone asked for an update on the old one. I took him to his doctor for a checkup after 3 weeks and boy was the doctor upset when Max asked if he could ride the 4 wheel bike as he had been a little, in the doctors words he asked Max if he had a death wish, this comment soon straightened Max up for a few days. Max's comment when we got home was at least I now know I can't drive ( the physio told him this when he left hospital but this wasn't good enough for him). Max managed not to drive for the next 4 weeks and the next checkup with the doctor all went well and everything is healing great, so far, still a while to go before he can do very much with that arm but at least he can drive again (thank goodness for that). As for the donar bone no it didn't come from one of our sheep or cows but from another human, (that's all we know).
The doctor seems to think he won't have to have it done again so long as he behaves (if he does damage it again I don't think he'll be game enough to back to the same doctor again). Lynn your wife hits the nail on the head with her comments. Thanks for your interest in the old man and I think he might survive me now that hopefully the worst is over. Kathy |
Glad to hear Max is mending......
I do hope it's not his drinking arm.....Max would look sissy drink beer with a straw........
Growing old sucks....the alternative is worst..... Hang in there and shake whenever you can. Old Boob |
