Loyd / UC Interchangable Parts
Guys,
In the T16 parts manual I have, there is a secion at the back which gives a list of common parts between T16 and UC Mk1*, is there a similar list for the Loyd? For instance I've been researching the UC drum brake back plates and they are much more substantial than the Loyd. My presumption is that the back plate was taken directly from the Ford 15 cwt truck on the Loyd.... so I'll have to speak to the Ford boys. :coffee |

The Loyd back plate only bolts on to the axle housing in the original manner of the Ford truck, however, the UC back plate is a structural element of the carrier, and also bolts to the hull at the outer edge.

The truck you want to look for is a pre war Fordson 7V. Loyd took this chassis, cut it off from just above the rear axle and bolted the diff to this end. They flipped the differential over so that the vehicle would drive in the correct direction, and this became the front of the vehicle. Are your loyds fitted with the armour plating around the drivers compartment?

Armour plate
I'd just build it with the panel steel. You will end up with a light, manouverable, enjoyable carrier. Dont make it any heavier than you have to.

Most loyds were just panel steel, but some were field fitted with armour plate. I think it was called a Stephenson B or C conversion. No doubt someone will clarify this.
