Back on the road
 

Hi, after breaking down in the way home from the Corowa the Moo Cow is running again with a rebuilt engine. A stripped fibre timing gear caused two broken rockers, bent valves which resulted in a rebuild, very dissappointing since it was only rebuilt 3 years ago and with less than 4000 km on it. I must say a big THANK YOU to all the people who stopped on their way home to see if they could help, it was a very noisy night sleeping next to the highway. The tilt tray arrived before 6:00am and I was home around 1:00pm.

Good to see you're back on the road again Rob. That was a rotten thing to happen - the C60Ls didn't fare too well in the engine department this year at Corowa did they.

What did you have to do to the engine apart from replacing the timing gear and bent bits?

I'm thinking a great debut run might be the Ganmain Show in August.

The engine man rebuilt it for the cost of parts, I was happy with the deal as the enigine was out of warranty ( but hadn't done 4000km ). It took him some time to chase parts which was dissappointing because I was hoping to have it fixed for Max's trip. Anyway it's done now and there will be other trips. All the best Rob.

Gee, a stripped timing gear, that would never have happened to a 216ci;).
Good to see it fixed anyway.

Why not remove the front clip?
 

sure makes the job easier from my experience. Welded items would have had to be removed to get it out that way. I couldn't pull the radiator out of mine with the great big brass drain cock on the bottom. Front clip on and off in an afternoon to replace a water-pump.

Hi Rob, I now have a SERIES 3, 6 cylinder long wheel base, it nearly ready for rego. New front brakes but having trouble bleeding them as usual !!!!!! and I have to get new shocks all round then back to rego.

He may have one of the late front clips that had a removable crossmember at top, front and center. The bar was held by 2 bolts each side. Presumably the late change was done to ease access. It would also have avoided wrestling the clip back into place if either the clip or the cab had been tweaked.
