Greetings, fellow enthusiasts!

I'm from Norway and have joined this forum to find out more about my five quad, it is in quite good shape but i have no idea about it's history other than what i've been able to decipher from the chassisnumber. (made in oshawa)

So, for starters, do anybody in here know what to do, or where to start?
For instance what kind of information is needed?

Welcome! Nice truck - I like the snow throwing pic. To keep all the info requests on vehicles together, use this thread http://orbit.dnsrouter.com/~mlu/foru...ad.php?t=14402. Post the CFR# if you know it (it might be stenciled on the glovebox door) or the VIN off the drivers door jamb. I see the 5 digit numbers on the bumper and hood - do you know if they are the CFR numbers? I will try and use them in the meantime just to get a start in case they are, but post the VIN just to be sure of the proper identifiction. So, how did you come to own the 5/4??? Maybe some visiting unit on winter exercise forget to load it up for the trip home? Post more pics of it if you can. Looks like it is missing the usual rust holes I associate with so many 5/4's.....Cheers,

The CAST Brigade:

The 1st Canadian Division was reformed in November of 1989 followed the Canadian Government's decision to end the Canadian Air-Sea Transportable (CAST) Brigade Group commitment to reinforce Northern Norway. 5th Canadian Brigade Group, or more accurately, 5e Groupe-Brigade du Canada, based in Quebec, was thus available for other tasks. The hole thus created by the removal of the CAST Brigade Group was filled, to a degree, by the creation of a NATO Composite Force (NCF) which Canada promised a battalion group towards.

Many vehicles were prepositioned in Norway for the CAST Brigade. In an act to save face/money, most of the equipment was turned over to Norway when the commitment was terminated. This included the lionshare of Canadas deployed MOSV BV-202 and 206 Fleet. I find it rather odd that we gave away some of the most useful vehicles for our climate, which we never did replenish.

This is interesting, and very true. The Hägglunds Bandvagn 206 is very versatile and almost unstoppable, the only competition i've ever seen is the sibling: bv-202, and a modified Laplander.

Thanks for the info on the CAST Brigade. Spoke to a retired RCR WO yesterday afternoon about exercising in Norway and he explained the same basic info on our assets in that location. He said it was the early 90's when he was last there with 2 RCR. Wouldn't mind seeing pictures of the warehouses full of equipment during that period. Sounded like it would be similar to Wainwright - unit shows up, sign for the vehicle + EIS, use and return at end-ex. Next unit repeats.

Scotty;

Canadian vehicles were prepositioned in Norway actually before the CAST Brigade. As early as 1982, while a component battalion of the AMF(L) Brigade, 1 RCR BG left vehicles behind in Norway upon redeployment back to Canada.

Does this mean that it belonged to AMF(L) Brigade, 1 RCR BG?

What can be read from the CFR then?

In Norway, if a cav APC is marked 413, 4 is the squadron-number, 1 is the platoon and 3 is the team.

I found this car in Lakselv, Northern-Norway, i told a friend of mine about it and he bought it, as he is more of a streetmachine kind of guy he quickly lost interest and parked it in the forest.
So.., when he was short on cash one time, i relieved him of this "burden". ;)
I probably payed way too much, but i've been looking for a truck like this since i was 15. :)

Later (regretably) i've been unable to get in touch with the previous owner.

This truck was stored for a canadian readinessforce in Bjerkvik, Norway, it was sold at a norwegian army-auction in 1996.
