C60S gross weight
 

hi i need some help with something.
i have get me a new canadian wrecker chervolet c60s 1943 model.
and i try to get down the gross weight to 7,5 tonn.
then i can drive the car by the law in norway.
all the books i have look at says 7265 kg (16000 pound).
the man who i get the numberlicens from say i have to have a paper from the factory or copy of a paper from a similar car.
if anyone have a car like this ,can you then tell me what gross weight is?

I looked up the vehicle registration document details of C60S with licence plate BE-15-69 (all details of registered vehicles are on line in the Netherlands):

Empty weight: 5.570 kg
Maximum load: 1.052 kg
Maximum permissible weight: 6.622 kg

Normally historic vehicles will have to be officially weighed before registration, so most vehicle documents will show different weights. Compare with C60S SB-01-24, for example:

Empty weight: 5.157 kg
Maximum load: 675 kg
Maximum permissible weight: 5.832 kg

At least they are well under 7.5 tons!

You are lucky you can drive a 7.5 ton truck on a car licence in Norway, the maximum here is 3.5 tons :(

in the paper i have the gross weight is 8000 kg.
i maybe have to take a discusion with the man in the uniform.
and hope the can give me some lower grosswight .

Take it to a weighbridge and get an official weighing letter. That should end the discussion with the civil servant, wouldn't it?

In Ontario, Canada we can register a gross weight of our choice between the empty weight of the vehicle and the manufacturer's rated gross weight. The licence fee (tax) and the rules governing use of the vehicle and drivers licence required vary depending on the registered gross weight. The maximum weight that we can operate the vehicle at is the smallest of the manufacturer's rated gross, the registered gross, the weight limit of our driver's licence. It does get more complex if we tow a trailer but this is the basic rule. Obviously, choosing to register a weight close to the empty weight of the vehicle will limit the ability to carry cargo. If your rules are like ours, this could help you.
Do you think that a copy of the page from the vehicle data book reproduced by Bill Gregg would help the officials to understand the original ratings? The book gives both empty and loaded weight ratings for the front and rear axles.

i can take it to a weightbridge but they will not give me lower grossweight
for that . i have to get a copy of others cars grossweight.
maybe then they will give me the right grossweight.
i have some picture but idont no how to get it on the forum.

Do you have a manual?
There should be specifications in the manual.
Military vehicles were usually designated with an "off road" carrying capacity(GVM) which was conservative (for example the Jimmy 6x6 was rated at 2.5 ton for off road, and (essentially) the same truck as a 6x4 was rated as 5 ton, on road.
I think the authorities are now looking for the manufacturers ratings, and a manual with those specifications, should satisfy them.
I have found that the specs. changed during production, and providing the specs from the manual from the right printing, was enough to get me through.
My vehicle was a WC 54(?) 3/4 ton Dodge Ambulance, the carrying capacity went up from 15cwt to 18cwt,during production, so I used the earlier service manual specifications.

i have mailet a company in the usa raybesto but i dont get anyting back.
maybe they dont sell out of usa .or do i have to wait a few week to get a mail back.if anyone can help i be happy i have to order brake wheelsylinder
for 2 stk chervolet c60s and 1 stk chervolet c15a.
the masterpump cant i get or?
maybe its best to rebuild that.

Chevrolet master brake cylinders are no longer available..... and unless you find a new old stock for sale by a collector or on Ebay..... you are out of luck.

The most common practice in Canada is to have them rebuilt by a professinal that does this specialized work. They will ream out the inside and install a full SS stainless steel insert and a full rebuild kit. The resulting work is usually good for life....... or at least your life...... cost is about $200 Canadian.

If I send a letter to Europe it takes about 10 days for it to get there and another 10 for the reply to get back to me. That's three weeks of waiting.
I managed to find a NOS master cylinder for my C8 on ebay with a buy it now price of $99 so I grabbed it up. The military ones are different to the civilian ones.

i have not sendt mail but email i remeber now what mail is. :)
