Miller Cable Bridge
 

Not sure where to put this question, so will try here.
Does anyone have a pic or more information on the Miller Cable Bridge. All I have found so far on a google is below.
Dates from the 1960's, trialled by the Brits I think, and was told about Aussie Acco's using this system as a training excercise many moons ago. Had thought that that the vehicles were towed across, but apparantley they could drive over themselves.


"Some ideas are more practical than others.
While hovercraft were gaining converts and applications, the Miller bridge would cause only a small blip on the radar of military innovations.

Developed by an Australian officer, it offered a low-cost, easy-to-construct (and just as rapid to dismantle) method of crossing river and ravine.

The cable bridge, based on two steel wires less than an inch thick, could replace the obiquitous 80-tonne Bailey bridge . . . it was hoped.
A Land Rover, fitted in five minutes with flanged hubs designed to clip onto the cables, was wheeled out and sent on its way to the far bank."

Hmmmm some of the names over there seem very familiar....

There was some discussion the other day as to whether the Champs had been designed to use this system, obviously not as they pre-date it.

I know I have seen pictures of it being used at Chilliwack in BC. I even remember seeing one set up on the base across either the Vedder River or another local one when I was just a Boy scout getting a tour of the base back in the late 60's.
CFB Chilliwack was for engineers.
I'll ask around.

Some good footage on the Miller (Millar?) Cable Bridge, including the setting up of cable and Land Rover hub adaptors, before seeing the Landy drive itself across.
No Sound, but self explanatory. It would seem the Officer in the shiny shoes is Miller himself.
