Ford V8 Crankshafts/Bearings
Sometime back someone was discussing using C8BA rods and bearings on an earlier V8.
This is ok if you are using a C8BA or C49A crankshaft with two oil holes per journal. If your crankshaft has only a single oil hole in the centre of the crank pin the oil will leak between the two rods. In Australia, we see a few engines with C41A/C49A crankshafts and locked in bearings. The crankshaft size is the same as the C8BA, but the bore in the big end of the rod is larger. |
Bearings oil and other important stuff
Absolutely right. When rebuilding a flattie and you are going to use 8BA goodies always be sure to match an 8BA crank with 8BA con rods. This was done when I rebuilt my engine...I used a 1948 Block and 1952 Crank and Con Rods.
Most important. cheers Mike |
You can also use a 255 Merc crank in the 48 motor if you use Merc pistons too and you end up with a 255 cid engine. That would give a noticeable hp and torque increase.
