F8 back on the road

After some excellent painting by Richard Cooke, my F8 has returned home. She runs very nicely. It took more than the three years I set myself but worth the extra time. Still quite a bit to do though including markings. She'll be on the MV circuit next year!

Those doors and the cab base look good, Barry!

So, is the half-tomato soup can on the engine housing some special Royal Canadian Army Service Corps ration heater? Put can of SPAM or Corned Beef inside, drive to the next convoy halt and enjoy hot food?

What prep' work did you do before the repainting?

Hi Terry

Yes, the old soup can has gone and I now have the proper rubber cover - access to the oil filler on the Ford. The cab oil filter has gone too! Although the as-found truck looks in quite good shape, you can see on the instrument panel just how much it had been modified with extra holes, gauges, switches etc. Everything needed a lot of work including a replacement engine since the original was rusted solid.

Re painting; the box was removed, sand blasted and epoxy primered (expensive!) before spray painting with semi-gloss air-dry enamel from Brian Asbury. The front sheet metal, which I had brush primered and painted - not very well I have to say, was rubbed down and sprayed with sandable primer, rubbed down again and finished as above. The finish is quite soft and scratches easily but I'm hoping it will harden with time.

Cheers

Well done David, it must be very satisfying to sit back & look at the fruits of you labour. Another 12 cab! Woo Hoo!
