Where was I

South of the border.....Name the nearest town to where these photos were taken.

Also is this an ex-military body?

Tony Smith 13-10-09 10:24

Not ex-Mil, ex Victorian Railways. The VR GY wagons were the universally common 4 wheeled wagon for most of the 2nd half of the 20th Century. As they were withdrawn from servce, some were cut up for scrap, others sold by auction to find all kinds of 2 lives. Underframes of many types of rail wagons are often used as small bridges by private property owners.

As for location, looks like Rutherglen to Wangaratta for all I know.

hrpearce 13-10-09 20:58

Tony, thanks for the ID, it is located about four and a half hours west of Wangaratta. There is another across a gulley in a padock a couple of K's away that still has one end on it so wouldn't be much use as a bridge.

I was near St. Arnaud, I didn't realise I'd left it so long to answer.

Ryan 31-07-10 12:57

long time waiting.

About bloody time! :D

I think like most people I'd completely forgotten about your post. It did have me wondering though at the time.

Where was I today? It was the first time I've been there and it was a very interesting day.

Given the dot in the sky looks a lot like a Wirraway I'd say you may have been at the former No. 10 Elementary Flying Training School, Temora, Riverina District, New South Wales, Australia, Earth, Solar System, Galaxy, Universe.

hrpearce 22-10-11 10:25

Keith you know I've been to Temora before, I talked to you there. You are right the plaine in the sky is a Wirraway from Temora, it flew over the passing out parade at Kapooka today. We then went for a tour of the base and watched some demonstrations of training. A great day out and an eye opner for Greg.

Now this question is bright coloured :) I will leave it to the locals, is Bob about?

Mike Cecil 04-10-15 17:38

Certainly can be a bright colour, and you can eat it, too..... (just peel it first, of course....)

Mike

Very cryptic responses so far, so from where was I returning to see this sign on my way back into town?

Mike Cecil 04-10-15 23:52

errrr.... Apple? :giveup :bang:

Or Molong, maybe Wellington, or perhaps Stuart Town...???

Mike

Richard Farrant 05-10-15 00:04

Maybe you had been to see a Blitz owner nearby, who just happens to have a 25 pounder :)

Mike it is a no through road I was in town for a final reunion as farm management has now been removed from this campus. Originally started as an Ag collage offering two year associate diploma coerces, now swallowed up by the university system. It certainly has changed from when I was there in 77 - 78.

Matt Austin 06-10-15 05:45

Living in Junee, and having spent seven years living in an ecclesiastical edifice near that CSU sign, I pass the Romani Barracks quite regularly.

If I'm able to pass the entrance requirements, I may just end up spending some time there myself. I'm seriously looking at it, although I'd better get moving, being 44 years of age.

Gotta love the City of Crows. But don't call Wagga Wagga Wagga.

Cheers,
Matt

hrpearce 06-10-15 09:22

Matt you live in Junee and the sign I photographed is in Orange.

Matt Austin 07-10-15 04:08

Well there you go; I've driven past the Wagga sign more times than I care to remember, and I've never once stopped to have a good look. I gladly stand corrected. Mind you, I lived a few hundred metres from the north campus of CSU Wagga, and I knew that they've redone the sign since my time there.

So, one should never assume! I should've stopped to check the name of the barracks in Wagga, shouldn't I?

Cheers,
Matt
