You will find that you will eventually need something later,,,

Don't throw away that right hand drive clutch bell housing. They can be hard to come by. The same goes for the pintle mount.

throw out

Jeez we salvage them in that condition, lots of bits to trade with there.

Bob Carriere 09-08-09 19:11

Save everythng original......

Hi Eric

Save all the sheet metal.... that may have more value than anything else.

I believe from what you told me the frame was toast,,,,,,but with four legs welded on will make a good stand for storing axles, etc.

The engine is a mid 70 GM with the same period tranny.... tranny could be usefull...... engine is scrap.

Check the bellhousing, as suhhested if it is the right hand drive model with the clutch on the driver's side..... save that.....

A lot of cross memebrs on the frame have been butchered..... if you scrap the frame take the time to remove all the spring hangers..... just grind the heads of the rivets flush and punch out the rivets with a drift punch/hammer.

At the front of the frame you have two brackets.... L shape... the hold the bumpers on the frame.....save that.....

Save the heavy floor plate of the cab it is probably the rare dot and dash diamond plate that is not made anymore.....

Have a good time salvaging...... and watch your foot..... I mean the other one that is not broken yet!!!!

No dice.....

Engine and Bellhousing is NOT a CMP.... neither is the tranny with the incorporated Emergency brake........ I doubt that you would use it again on a CMP....... Now that modern transmission could be used on a C15 2 wheel drive without a transfer case. BUT NOT on the typical 4x4 as the modern tranny is too long and the resulting driveshaft between the tranny and t-case ridiculously short and would need a machine shop to fabricate...$$$$

Save that brake master cylinder.... it can most likely be resleeved/rebuilt.

You did save the axles didn't you.....?

The two heavy cast steel brackets at the extreme end of the rear frame should be saved.

Checker plate..

Eric..
Bob Carrier mentioned this..

Save the heavy floor plate of the cab it is probably the rare dot and dash diamond plate that is not made anymore.....

I agree..what you have IS the rare dot and dash plate....save even the little bits and pieces of that floor plate..
It is rare and hard to get for restorers and they can use even little bits to match in to a butchered restoration..

:cheers: :drunk::remember :support

Synchro tranny

I think that is a full syncro transmission, they can be fitted to work and they sure shift nice I'm told.

Grant Bowker 12-08-09 21:31

If you're thinking of the SM420, it is dimensionally longer/larger than the original transmission, making the already short intermediate shaft really tiny. I thought about it because the SM420 should be more than up to the torque/power of the 216/235/261 unless they are hot rodded to the extreme, but I gave up because of the added length, maybe I'm just chicken.
