Site problems

For the past fortnight at certain times of the day I find the site impossibly slow. Seems to be two time periods. 4am til about 8 am & 6pm to 8pm local Queensland time or there abouts. It can start doing the slow down while I am partway though posting or reading the forums and can be frustrating to say the least. I just give up in the end and go to other sites for an hour or two but then when I do return have to check each post to see if I missed any new posts.

All the other sites I visit do not have this 'problem' so it is unique to MLU.

PS Boss where are the photos for the MLU calendar so I can finish it ready for sale :teach:

As I posted this topic it happened again and I was locked out for a couple of hours :nono:

Same problems.....

There are times when access and wait time to post a reply is just to much...

Now having said that I am not trying to put down the MLU forum.... would like to know what I can do at my end to speed things up..

I do have high speed connection with optical videotron cabling and use AOL...

I notice that there are some dead times when things are very slow even using the server at the office....security at the governemntoffice means some features of MLU are not available.....

I have been having problems with the overlapping security process of AOL and Norton..... but it was worst with McCaffee which explains my migration to Norton.

I can't give particular times for the slow down except to say that I usually access MLU during the evening hours from home.

In the same time frame I get quick response from Stovebolt or other web site so it seems to be MLU related somehow and possibly agravated by AOL and the busy evening hours when everybody else tries to do the same thing...

Bob
.... just curious!!!!

A lot of times when I click on new posts I get a "Database Error". If I try again in about a half hour it sometimes works.

Yes, true. From what I've been able to gather, the volume of uploaded pics seems to be overloading the server, forcing me to shut down the forum and run a series of diagnostics which usually find me the corrupted jpg allowing me to delete it. I'm still looking into it, though, and will report when I have a more complete understanding of the problem.

I also have to upgrade the forum version again - no, not like the last time! - and hopefully that may help as well.

(1) Cliff, your best best DNS-wise is to keep with http://orbit.dnsrouter.com/~mlu/forums until I get that sorted (if ever  )...

(2) Re photos, I know of several I said I could get... how many do you need? I will endeavour to acquire same before the snow falls...

BREAK-BREAK

Mr. Churcher, could I come out to photograph your new acquisition before said snow starts flying? :D

Jif I have 6 reasonable ones and need 6 or 7 more. I do have a Winsor Carrier and T16 carrier plus the cover shot but need more CMP photos if possible please.

Access to MLU was not possible at my end over the past week. Yesterday I finally was able to see the forum again, but got the "Database Error", that David mentions when trying to open certain threads. Coming back after a few hours didn't solve the problem in my case. When I tried to reply to this thread yesterday, I also got the "Database Error" when I pressed the "Post reply" button.
Today everything seems fine and I was able to see threads like Dirk's "Sightseeing in Oshawa", David Moore's "F8 on the road" and some of Hanno's threads. Hurah!

Alex

There's still a glitch there but I'm on top of it and will sort it out sooner rather than later. Have patience if you see that database error... I WILL get it fixed. :)

Is anyone else having trouble either getting the site to start with or when you do get in everything running extremely slow ?
Sometimes it dosent come up ,sometimes brings up a database error
If you do get in when you click on a thread or link it takes up to 2 minutes for it to emerge or not at all :confused

Geoff Winnington-Ball (RIP) 24-05-09 02:57

Andrew, today it DOES seem slow... I also had to take it down this afternoon when the database errors started showing up (that's fixed now). I haven't been online for a couple of days, so I'll monitor this status closely from hereon in.

Thanks Geoff
I really do take my hat off to you and your team :salute:
Maintaining this site must take up huge amounts of time and money
I am sure all of your members are very grateful of the effort -It goes without saying it is a great site

Geoff

Just to let you know, I have a lot of trouble accessing the site. I must say I've only tried via class five and one other(havent tried tortuga for a while)
The box comes up saying the link is broken.I have tried probably 20 times yesterday. This morning it seems very slow, taking a long time to load a thread. I dont think these problems are at my end, (but I dont know)
Thanks.

Lynn,

It has been slow this weekend, I don't know why... but don't try to use the old tortuga link anyway - they moved us. Try http://orbit.dnsrouter.com/~mlu/forums/ and see if that does any better for you, if mapleleafup.org doesn't work for you. I'm trying to get this whole lot shifted over, but there's a substantial amount of time and money involved... I'll keep you posted. One thing's for sure - their DNS server is buggered, either by itself or through repeated denial-of-service attacks. They don't seem to want to do anything about it, so it's going to be their loss when I go. :bang:

:drunk:

The site seems a bit faster for me now but still sometimes slows right down during a visit. I seem to be getting emails about posts some of them 9 & 10 days old that I have already read as well as recent unread posts to threads I subscribe to. :)
