Need a day out ??

The Oberon RSL Sub branch (returned services league) have been working hard on a new museum and meeting rooms. The offical opening is on the 27th september at midday. The president, Mr Bill Wilcox has asked me to provide some vehicles if possible and at the moment we are taking a Matilda, a couple of carriers and a few jeeps.

If you need to take your old military vehicle for a spin why not visit for the day or camp at our place and we will make the weekend of it...

Visitors will be most welcome.

Kind regards
Matt

A new $80,000 military museum is about to open in Oberon.

The facility is being built by the Oberon RSL Sub-Branch and will have an office and meeting room.

Branch secretary Neville Stapleton says the museum will house memorabilia donated by Oberon residents.

He says the feature display will be a Turkish soldier's uniform from World War I.

"It's another tourist attraction in town. The town is sister cities with a town on the Gallipoli peninsula in Turkey by the name of Eceabat. There'll be quite a big display of Turkish and Australian World War I Gallipoli stuff," he said.

The museum is expected to open late next month

Technical question.....

Looking at the Matilda picture....... what a massive hunk of steel..... impressive to see that someone has taken the effort (grunt) to fix it up.

The individual track pads are very similar to what I recall was on a Churchill....

.... are they a similar design..? but maybe narrower.... or are they exactly the same...??

Curious!!!!

Some times we take the lot !!

Matilda track is very diferent to churchill, Matilda track is 14'' wide and there are 69 shoes per side.

There are two types of track, barless as used on early vickers tanks (H pattern) and the heavy lug style . both types are hollow cast.

Kind Regards
