This Police vehicle was in service with British forces in Shanghai in the mid late 1930 period.

Thus far, I have not been able to make a positive ID.

For a number of reasons, I believe it is a British truck, type of tyres/type of 6X4 drive/right hand drive/style of body.

Anyone have any ideas?????????????

I agree it looks British - I'm thinking maybe Thorneycroft.

Hi Nuyt:

Yes, I know and it was never identified there either as well as I can remember.

Th photo has now cropped up on another forum with the registration number blacked out.

To my eyes, it seems to be a British 30 CWT 6X4 but I cannot match it to anything. It could also be American, as pointed out on your forum regarding other vehicles but I have not been able to come up with a match there either.
If American, it must have used one of the then popular conversions from 4X2 to 6X4 drive.

I am about to do some research in that direction hopefully later today.

Bill

A better picture on that forum. Definitely a Thornycroft, you can see the lettering across the radiator.
