Trailer infot !!
Hi
What is the best size for a trailer i would like to put a Bren on it if i found one :yappy: and how many pound :coffee Thx Eric |
A car/equipment hauler is a good investment. You'll end up with a lot more than bren gun carriers on it. Make sure you get a unique hitch or trailer receptacle so guys won't keep borrowing it from you. No good ever comes from loaning out your trailer (same goes with logsplitters).
Fully loaded, a carrier can weigh over 9000 pounds. So a 12,000 pound trailer is about the minimum. Generally, a 3/4 ton truck is best when you are reaching these kinds of weights. I use a 12,000 pound trailer, dual axles, electric brakes, and using the standard pintle/lunette type hitch. I had mine custom built 14 feet long, although a 12 foot trailer could work. It just wouldn't give you much to work with if you are trying to balance your load. Also, a shorter trailer becomes a PIA the first time you go to load a full size vehicle onto the trailer as it will stick out a lot. I have had to tie the ramps onto station wagons and pickup trucks when I went to recover them. Although I get away with the pintle type hitch, ideally, a fifth wheel hitch will place more load on the truck. Note that in some provinces, once you have a trailer with a GVW of over 10,000 pounds, you require a higher grade of driver's license, and will have to pull in to the scales. |
