Thanks for sharing that one the program UXB was one I've always enjoyed.

I'll include both of these two "Events" in our local MV Club newsletter just as you say "Just a Reminder" .

If you want a really good book on the topic of UXBs look for "Unexploded Bomb" by Major A. B. Hartley - there is a later book that was written at the time of the UXB series on BBC which is an inferior retelling of what was in Hartley's book.

Amazing the condition of the parachute bomb and the size of the boom, bet the seagulls had a good time.

Thanks for the post, we Engineers love to see things go BOOM! I imagine there are more UXBs yet to be found over there. I remember reading a story of how early in the war there were fears that German forces would invade and capture airfields in southern England. The bases most at risk were rigged with explosive devices to deny their use if captured, including HMS Daedalus at Lee-on-Solent in Hampshire. This establishment was home to the Fleet Air Arm. In total around three hundred ‘pipe mines’ were laid in a grid square pattern. Each mine was made out of a twenty metre length of metal pipe packed with explosive. Most were removed at the end of the war by Canadian engineers but apparently some were missed and had to be disposed quite recently. Derek.
