Hillier steps down!!!!!!!
 

Announced today, Canada's Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), General Rick Hillier, intends to vacate his post effective 1 Jul 08 (Canada Day, aka Dominion Day).

With details being sketchy, I'm betting that there was some backroom political skullduggery going on to cause this resignation.

Hillier is, flatly, the best CDS we have probably ever had. A soldier's soldier, a no nonsense results getter (look at the stuff we now have vice what we had before he took over).

While Leslie most probably will take over, I wonder what it is in the Canadian psyche which causes us to lambaste and pillory those who have achieved greatness.

Points of view, anyone?

I don't know what's going on in the back rooms (politics has to be part of it!), but we're sure as hell going to miss that guy...
