running oil pump with drill?

Hi

Sorry for all the questions. I'm wondering if there is a way that I can run the oil pump on our carrier with an electric drill. I'd like to be able to run oil into the top of the motor to loosen things up.

Anybody done this before? If so, how?

Where is the oil pump positioned? Is it internal or external?

What are you going to connect the drill to, to spin up the oil pump?

You can't do it on the flathead. The oil pump drive gear is engaged on the idler gear. With most overhead valve engines the drive gear is on the distributor so when you remove the distributor you can spin the pump with the drive shaft. One more thing, if you could drive the pump the oil still wouldn't get to the valves where you want it. They mainly get oil form the splash when the motor's running.

having looked closer at the manual I've learned this now. Shucks. Thanks for those who pointed me in the right direction!
