Chevrolet brakes
I'm currently swapping out the master cylinder in the C60S for a sleeved reconditioned one.
I was wondering whether anyone has done this job recently - the process is to drop out the brake booster, undo the two studs under the master cylinder, undo the hydraulic connections on the rear and remove. The complication is the pushrod in the front is, unlike the Ford version captive, being held into the front of the master cylinder by a washer which is held in place with a circlip. The other end of the pushrod is threaded and screws into a floating nut in the reactionary linkage. Removing the cylinder was relatively easy, but do you think I can get the thread engaged back into the floating nut? I know it's just a matter of patience and luck but has anyone done this recently and do you have any advice? |
It's easy
You need someone watching and saying you almost got it that time try again, it also helps if there is a lady present as you wont wast time swearing in front of her :D

Managed to get it this morning... last time I tried I was on a fast - not recommended for concentration. The other thing which helped was a bright light. Trying to do something tricky like this in the dark doesn't have a lot to recommend it. So the Master Cylinder is bled as far as the joint at the rear of the cylinder and there is some pedal already which surprised me a little. Just waiting for No1 son to get home so he can do some pedal pushing and fluid replacement so I can get to the wheel cylinders. I've left the booster disconnected at the front end whilst bleeding the brakes as it's easier to push the brake pedal without it. |
