I have one downstairs as well. I always pictured it in use in an officer's bell-tent on his table as part of a makeshift office. I would love to know more about this item as well. I have had it in my collection for about 30 years now. I believe ti to be wartime.
It appears to take the same batteries as some of the field phones. |
there is a well known picture where there is a Sherman with a canvas tarp on the side and 2 or 3 guys standing next to a tripod with map board , and one of these lamps clipped on it . I have to browse internet to find it again .

Thanks for your informations. So it's a good WW2 item for you, because i find no date on this one. If you find photos in action i will happy to see them? Thanks for your help

As it says in the instructions on the box lid, it fits an Artillery Board and runs off two sets of batteries (I assume 'X' cells) in that compartment in the box.

This unit never used Sextons. They landed on DDAY with M7 Priests and Sherman’s.
The Sherman in the background with the plotting board was the gun troop commanders tank. This is the same tank on the left in this picture. Taken just before embarking on the LCT for DDay. My grandfathers cousin is poking his head out of the turret for the Sherman on the right side “China Clipper”. It never made it to the beach as it hit a submerged mine in the surf and blew up. My grandfathers cousin managed to get out and swim ashore. He then later joined Garth Webb’s crew in the other Sherman and stayed with him until the end of the war. |
