Can you spare few pictures from the rear for the tail lights holes/location....

I have one like that.... no spare .... plans are to rebuilt it.

What kind of box will you be putting on it.... or fabricating??

I've got the GS box just working on the floor replacing the front 2 feet. Sat nose down with water in it so had to fabricate said floor, bottom corners of the sides and bottom of the front bulkhead. I'll go take some pictures now that I've got the hang of posting pics on here.

....would not mind seeing your progress on the box and some general before and after pictures. Wheels/rims will most likely be found in old junk yards associated with 1940 GM/Chev.... very narrow for 7:50 tires.... military may have been oversize to 8:25 .......

Certainly a very sturdy frame....overbuilt as anything else from that period.

One question puzzles me...... after thw war it was quite common to retro fit CMP with civilian double wheels which fitted the rear axle shaft and bearing...... I wonder if the same applies in reverse..... that a CMP brake plate, drum and 20 CMP wheel could fit on that same axle shaft...?

Any one knows out there...?

Replacing the front portion of the floor, I can't duplicate the ribbing so I went a gauge up to make up the rigidity.

The left rear light placement, the wiring harness had 2 wires but I believe it is just the pencil light of later CMP's with the second wire for grounding.

Front Bulkhead was out where I could take a picture all original except for the bottom 3 inches.

The front hitch, surge mechanism and the reverse lockup with the slotted holder for storage.

Having done the breaks a CMP brake drum does fit on, Shoes and all parts from the brake cables, cylinders backing plates etc are all the same as on a 15CWT CMP.

Having said that the CMP brake drum appears to fit, the shoes are the narrower ones from the font of the CMP's but the spindle matches the rear which has a wider set of brake shoes.
Correction the shoes were exactly the same as the REAR brake shoes.

It might be a plan to just put CMP drum and wheel on. The 15 CWT used a CMP 16 inch wheel. Does anybody know of a 20 CWT with CMP pattern wheels. Mines a very late war production and by the tag i suspect it was destined for China.

Hi Harry:

I'm restoring a 1953 Yugoslavian copy of a 1942 Zis 3 76.2mm Russian cannon. It too has skinny 5 stud 20 inch rims on it. I just had the rims sand-blasted and painted so I'll post some photos and measurements. I'd be very interested in finding out what rims the Soviets copied- Ford, GM, ??

Actually, 5" wide 20" diameter wheels fitted with 7.00-20 road tread tyres.
I found one supplier carrying this tyre size. Brand is Rintal, I think it is an agricultural implement tyre. No doubt there are other brands carrying this size, though it isn't very common.

I put a spare set of CMP drums on and that will make it easier if I ever have a flat. Fit like they were meant to be on there!

Got the Mechanical parking brake all sorted out and the new hydraulics all done, no leaks and should last with silicone fluid.

I'd now say after spending some time looking through "The Factory Photo's" CD (Service Publications!) that the wheels on the trailer are Ford Commercial Pattern. Still want one as I would like a spare and keep it as original as possible.

I was out at my favorite mil scrapyard today and was looking at some of the Budd rims. There was a very nice condition 5 hole 20" budd but it was 6" wide between the flanges. I checked it against a 20cwt trailer located in the yard and those rims seem to be 5".

I have some spares on an old 44 ford 2 ton outside. I'll check them for width. Casey is out this way right now and could possibly transport it back for you.

Note that this company also deals with STA, so the 10:50X16 chevron tires and jeep tires are now available to us Canadians at reasonable prices, provided we are prepared to drive to the other side to get them.

Took a tape out back today, and sure enough the modified conventional pattern Fords have the rim you are looking for. One of these trucks is to be scrapped, so I'll take a shot at pulling one of the tires off it's rim. I gave Casey a heads up that he might have a rim to bring home, so we'll see if this will all work out. I'll let you know.

I also checked it against my 56 Ford COEs, and by then the rims went to 6" wide, and a 7.50X20 tire. I'll have spares of these rims too.

Of course, all the usual cautions on the split rims will apply to these. They can let go without warning during filling, so if you don't have a cage, at least set it under a vehicle or trailer while filling and use a clip on chuck and a long hose. I have seen the power behind these rings, as well as seen the damage it can do to a skull if you don't follow procedures.

I was going to reply right away that my rim was not a split rim at least the one in the picture, so i went out to take a clear picture of the wheel. The picture didn't turn out to well so with the light better on the other side I went to look at it. It's a split rim! One side non split rim and the other a split rim.
Exact same tires and with a few other things I noticed I think this one was jus completed at the end October 45, whatever wheel was available, lights never installed and probably never had the lower part of the landing leg.
I'll use as a spare whatever wheel ends up being the odd one/

That would be a Conventional or Commercial rim, Modified Conventional Pattern (MCP) trucks have WD pattern (split) rims (13, 16 and 20”)

Well Harry, Casey and his entourage showed up today to pick up your Conventional or commercial (thanks for the correction Hanno) rim. Took 3 tries to get one that was worth sending. The first one had some swelling of the metal where the rivets hold the two halves together. We almost had the ring of the second one when Casey noticed it was 6 hole. Third time was the charm and we got a decent rim. Got the 70 year old rubber off OK, and while Casey and the gang went to lunch I gave it a quick sandblast. Of course, then the first real rain we have seen for a while started, so as an added bonus you got a free contractor grade garbage bag.

By the way, all three were not split ring, but rather the safety ring type.

I would have painted it but the weather is now un-conducive to drying.

Ha sounds like a novel title don't it. Yes we are back with the loot as it were.
It was a long drive and although the wheel was large even without the tire. Anita did not have to cuddle up with it while sleeping in the back although I did suggest it should come between us a few times! Ha ha. Naw she was a good sport and i managed to stow it away under the bed on my side so it tilted me to her side...? It made it home intact and even across the line without search or siezure when coming back to Canada via Saskatchewan. No recipt? No worries had the one for the rad I got...thans Rob for the tour and the recci of the elephant grave yrard! say Hi to Al!
