Chev 216 oil system
3 Attachment(s)
Hi everyone. Re oil system on 216 Chev engine. Regards to Phil Waterman, I used the system of checking you proposed 3/7/16 for checking the aiming etc. & added a further test. I filled the troughs with grease & rotated the crank several times. Then with a square off the top of the sump on vertical lines going down to where the oil jets hit the sump sides, I could get a further indication of alignment. Doing this I found one dipper slightly out of alignment to the nozzle of the oil jet. From the first picture you will see that it is not much, & it was the path marked out by the bottom of the dipper, which on closer examination proved to be bent out of vertical. As the dipper has a wider section of catchment as it goes upward to the conrod, it would perhaps have not been of much significance, but a touch with a soft hammer & a retest aligned it. See second picture. I did these tests without allowance for a sump gasket for an indication of “clearance” problems. Thanks for your advice, I feel confident all is well.
