B29 Bombing of Malaya

I was not aware of the B29 bombing raids on Malaya before reading this underground leaflet which appears to have been printed in secret.

The document sources radio reports as references.

Years ago I read 'The Jungle is Neutral' written by F. Spencer Chapman, who, was for a while, down here at Wilson's Prom. setting up the Commando school. Chapman stayed behind in the Malayan jungle , surviving for years . He eventually made contact with India and they dropped by air, wireless equipment with a steam generator for charging the batteries.

Burma, too

Mike,

Interesting, thanks: wonder where they were flying from.

There were also US bombing raids over Burma, too, eg the Bawdwin Mine and processing plant and the airfield at Lashio in north-east Burma. The mining company tried to claim damages post war.

Mike

It says they were operating from Philipines. A pretty long haul to bomb a few factories. I suppose it was as much a demonstration as achieving any strategically significant result.

They could well have been Indian based B-29's. This is interesting reading.
