No.27 Trailer Restoration
 

With the carrier now nearly finished, I felt like a simple restoration before restarting the truck. The No.27 Trailer has sat in the corner of the shed for long enough so, as most of the parts are there, I pulled out the ‘cooker’ to get it ready for the sand blasters.

I have not found a lot of detailed information on restoring these and as I don’t have a workshop manual and the parts manual does not give too many clues as to how some parts are assembled (Not that there there are too many bits to pull apart), it will require careful examination of components.

Fortunately, this trailer came as a kit, so the first question was how to pull the axle apart. This was my first idea and it worked without any issues :thup2:. Inside the axle ends is a 1 1/4” UNF threaded hole and the ‘tube’ has caps at each end. It looks like to remove the axle ends whilst still on the trailer a long bolt can be threaded into the hole to pull the end off. :eek: Peter Orchard also had a brilliant idea to drill the bolt and insert a hydraulic fitting and use pressure to push the end off.

It’s important to limber up....
 

Spent the day in the shed pulling bits apart, ready for de-rusting.

One of my OCDs is that I feel I have to pull everything down to it’s component parts to clean and paint them and then re-assemble. Sandblasting the outside of something may look nice but it can hide a lot.

Pulling the door springs apart took some time, but was well worth it to get all the rust out between the springs.
