I've never seen this hoist on Fordson tractor before. Does anybody know more about it or have more photos?

Now, I am certain this is a conversion made by Stanhay of Ashford, Kent. It has an air compressor driven from the belt pulley, the reservoir can just be seen on the other side of the engine and the crane jib was lifted by compressed air in the large cylinder at the front.

I served my apprenticeship with a company in the Stanhay group and remember they had some yard cranes built with the same, unusual principle. A number of the staff had worked for the company from before the war and one of them once produced a stack of photos and brochures of their products, many mounted on Fordson tractor, of which they were main dealers for.

Richard,

Thanks for the info. I was wondering if it was some sort of hydraulic hoist.
What a coincidence that it originated in Ashford. I spent part of my childhood in Wye, four miles from Ashford.
