An earlier Ebay Item about a week ago. Don't think it sold on line but it did sell to a fellow in Ontario. Is this the museum at Fort Henry? Can they sell this stuff? or are they supposed to offer it to other museums? Since the taxpayer may have already paid for this thru Charitable tax reciepts?

There are vehicles at Fort Henry?

It's just down Highway 2 from the Communications Museum at CFB Kingston so maybe that's where my confusion comes in.

The Comms museum is a CF museum, just like CFB Bordon, so maybe they can sell off vehicles.

Some of the museums are privately funded and therefore are able to sell to anyone. Not many of the military museums are government funded anymore. Even the museum at the armory here in Sudbury has no government funding--all private.

Apparently if the government funds the museum then there are many restrictions as to what can be displayed--ie mostly Canadian content, much like our "History TV". This obviously limits the display of Axis items.

...a fellow named Frank Grant, at one point selling militaria near Acton, Ontario. If so (and Frank had a Heavy Utility Machinery ZL), then I sold him that chorehorse. Frank had quality stuff, but always asked the moon.

I don't think Fort Henry has anything to do with THAT Fort Henry.

Yes, we have. You brought this MACH-ZL to our attention when it was first put up for auction during September 2001 by - or on behalf of - the owner, Frank Grant. The high bid, of 2, was US$10,100, which did not meet the reserve price.

Hurry up guys, only 13 hours left to empty the kids piggy banks! :)

An arranged (by a phone call) visit to Limehouse will get you a look at this vehicle. Owned, of course by Frank Grant, marketed by his friend Ed who sells for Frank on E bay under the name "Fort Henry Antiques". This is about the fifth marketing try.
I know the complete history of the vehicle (having originally found it). Frank has extensive restoration work done on his vehicles to display them, which may account for the price.

Hanno.....I sure am tempted...but will decline for now. Let's just say the vehicle was extensively restored although mostly complete when found, in a beautiful gloss dark green.
It's last big trip was Florida and back when the previous owner got married in the fifties.

As for the `quality`of this particular truck, I have seen it up close and personal...
It may certainly be rare, but as for a collector, as always, buyer beware.
This particular veh is not as nice as the photos, nor is it original in many ways and I am sure the owner has some convoluted story to go with it... The resto job is shit.
As for Fort Henry Antiques, it is merely the nom de plume as a cover for the owner who sells through a 3rd party. Maybe theres a reason???

I believe I answered questions about this one on MLU last time it went up on ebay.
Being sold by a 3rd party seller for the owner, not as nice as it looks. I have seen it first hand, not worth the $$$ IMHO.
And.... as with all the vehicles this guy has there's a story that goes along with every one of them...

HUW on ebay
 

This HUW is for sale on ebay. Or is it a machinery ZL? It's supposedly from a museum but they're confused about what it is. The windows are made from a roll of poly and the mickey mouse ears camo job leaves a little to be desired.

This vehicle shows up regularly on EBay, always from the same seller, so I have to assume that it doesn't sell with the consensus among the EBay community being that it isn't the opening bid.

Dave, I wouldn't fault the cam job. It's not meant to be mickey-mouse and the black is applied close to the way it was in WW2. The only 'flaws' are that it should be dark grey rather than black and it was seldom applied over olive drab on a HUP/HUW manufactured this late in the war. The Z/L on the door is pure fiction. A W/T (meaning it was equiped for a wireless installation) or an S (for suppressed ignition) would be more accurate.
